Funky flats or frumptastic disasters?

I am looking to add some modern interesting pancake flat shoes to my spring collection. What do you think: funky or frumpy?

1. sorel sandals
2-3. gentle souls ... oxfords? (i'd get white)
4-5. lands end canvas flip-ballet-flop?

Tricky. They're all different even though casual so it might be good to know the target use or outfits. Just from the eyeball test, the Sorels read best as casual sandal for shorts or jeans; the oxfords are the most iffy with frump overtones; the hybrid shoe had me puzzled.

Intended use would be summer mom-on-the-go type stuff. Park, library, children's museum.

Sarah if you feel your style is going in the direction of your last thread with the poncho, then I would say #1 or #3. And even if that is not the direction but you want to edge up your look a little I think either of these would be good.

#1 if they look good on (hard to tell with sandals imo) the others don't look sharp enough.

How about considering some D'Orsay flats? That way you'd be showing skin (to add structure to your more oversized/fluid/avante gard pieces) - they are flat - so wouldn't hurt your feet, you could dress them up or down, and they are very on trend right now - without the twee factor!

I like #1 the best. I don't quite know what to make about the last one--I'd have to see it on, as I've never seen anything like it. I think the *idea* of the second one is good--a laceup with cutouts--but there's something about the shape of the shoe and the design of the cutouts that reads a little frumpy to me.

Another vote for #1 and a first vote for #4!! I'd wear #4 in a heartbeat in spring/summer, especially if they're metallic - I like the "funkiness" of the style and it's different without being totally off the wall. Maybe that's because the majority of us Kiwi's wear jandals (thongs), dressy ones or casual, with practically everything! It's really down to personal preference tho' as the oxfords look a bit on the frump side to me.

I like #1 but I'm not in love with the others. The Sorel sandals are cute, casual, and hipster (or at least, the sort of thing that young-ish people in my city wear).

another vote for #1, especially in that color. i like #4, but i wonder if they would be comfortable. i also like marley's idea of a d'orsay flats.

I have tried 1 on before and love them. I am going to pick up a pair this summer. My mum bought them in black last summer, and I borrowed them to try them on a couple times.

Thanks everyone! I have ordered #1 and #4 to see how they look on my foot/if they are comfortable.

Marley, I love the idea of d'orsays but of the half dozen pairs i've tried they look horrid on my feet. Like the front emphasizes the width of the ball of my foot by making my toes looked pointed in and pigeon toed. Does anyone else have this issue?

(And upon coming to this conclusion i realize the one pair of d'orsays i had in the early ninety's did the same thing, even when my feet were smaller and a narrower width... strange? )
