I have ordered and returned hundreds of £'s of stuff over the last week looking for someting suitable to take my Nan to a friends funeral on Monday. These are the only things I'm remotely pleased with

ETA looks like the dress is the winner I will dig out some *big* knickers to wear with it. Is the skirt a total flop for occassions other that a funeral? x

I thinik I prefer the dress, no lumps or bumps seen from here. It looks lovely.

Thanks Carole, I think I'm paranoid over the lumps and bumps I've put on a few pounds and you know when your knickers dig in just a tad and leave a slight indent under figure hugging clothes? BF said I was mad!!! x

I like the dress, too. It is sedate enough for the funeral but you could definitely wear it on other occasions.

My preference is for the dress also. Quiet and neat.

I don't see any lumps and bumps at all, Louise! I also prefer the dress. Very understated and appropriate. Perfect. For other occasions, pair it with flashier shoes/boots and colourful jewellry, and off you go.

Again, don't see no lumps or bumps. But if you are feeling self-conscious, would a slip or a cami help? And maybe shorts instead of your regular pants in case the problem area is lower down? (The slip would be coolest and comfiest I guess.)

I think the dress is also a good idea in the long term, as it looks like an excellent, flattering and versatile purchase.

Louise - I think the dress is perfect for the occasion and also has other possibilities for other settings. It looks really good on you!

I like the dress, but if you want to cover up, maybe a slightly more waisted jacket? The jacket seems to work against the lovely waist the dress gives you. Or maybe you could pin it with a discrete brooch. Or maybe you totally disagree
You can use the dress over and over again with different accessories, whereas the pleats in the skirt do seem to accentuate your bottom. Nothing wrong with a woman having a bottom, but if you are self concious, the dress is more flattering.
Apart from shapewear, you could also consider a slipdress to prevent the lines from your underwear from showing.

ManidipaM and Heleeh I did try a slip it got returned though as it kept moving strangly under the dress and annoying me!! x

Maybe a different slip dress I have one that is more of a elongated, figure hugging but not constricting singlet out of viscose (like in the picture, but a different colour). It is very different from your ordinary flimsy material slipdress that twists around your body.

The dress - it gives you a nice shape. I like the jacket but it does end right above your hip line and might show your bum from the side view a bit more.

If BF thinks you are crazy to see lumps and bumps then I would go with that! I don't see any either. You could get a different pair or two of underwear and try that as well. Will you wear tights or stockings to the funeral? That will smooth things. nb

I vote for the dress as well. I don't think the skirt is a total flop. Maybe a longer cardigan could help. But, if you don't feel comfortable in the skirt, return it. The last thing you want is a brand new skirt just sitting in the closet.

The dress looks great and if it is comfortable and you feel good in it then it's an easy choice as you'll wear it other ways too. Pleats are always going to add volume so the skirt is doing what it's supposed to do I guess. I'm never crazy about buying any item for just one event - it always seems to end up being orphaned later. With that in mind, I'd keep to a tight budget or I'd SYC.

I was wondering if you will be warm enough in just the dress and the jacket. The jacket looks very thin on the picture in the link you gave. On this side of the North Sea it has been pretty cold for spring, lately.

The dress will look lovely on you. It is a very nice style. If it is very cold you might need to layer a heavier jacket with it. It llooks like it will be very versatile as well as appropriate.

Heleenh it's been pretty cold here too I'm planning on adding my black trench over the top (I would have worn my black boucle coat but I washed it and it shrank:-(( x

The dress with a shorter topper (fitted jacket?) would be suitably respectful while still allowing you to shine.

Truly lovely dress! Very versatile and flattering. I like it best by itself, but layering will certainly work to keep your warm! Underneath my knits I wear a bra/cami combination (with underwire) and full briefs with light shaping. I tuck the cami into the briefs to keep it from rolling up and look for only the "lightest" shaping" for a little smoothing without uncomfortable (and futile) "compression!"

Thanks all looks like its unanimous for the dress, I'm going to keep the jacket too as I don't have time to look for anything else now and I've got no other suitable toppers, it looks better in the mirror than in the photos too x
