I don't wear them because it's a layer that I just don't need. If I layer, it's because it makes an interesting visual or keeps me warm. I think slips can have a place if a dress/skirt is too sheer or itchy against the skin, but I probably would not wear a dress like that to begin with. I come from the generation of non-slip-wearers. My mom would always nag me to wear one, but I just found them annoying and fussy. I was constantly adjusting them to not peek out from under my skirt or dress, and just did not see the purpose of them. I never wore anything that required one. They just seemed hopelessly old-fashioned and unnecessary to me.
I guess it depends what your style is. You obviously like the reaction you get; I would not. I do not have a sexy or alluring style. I do find it interesting that they make you feel sexy. I have always thought of slips as being used for modesty.
