Called Frye today (number on site) to ask which local retailers stock their USA lines. I'd like to try on the boots pictured below.

The customer service representative who answered said that she couldn't give me this information. She suggested "big department stores" and named four. Really? CSRs aren't given access to inventory information, or it's a policy for some other reason, or part of a distribution agreement, or they'd rather sell through their own site, or what?

I've tried on other Frye boots at NR, and was not consistently wow'd. But I need a nearly-every-day replacement to my still-gourdorfull Sanitas, and ideally it should be the elusive 60L-wardrobe boot. Fryes get a lot of love around here, and I don't have the bandwidth to manage the drama of a Wesco order, so I want to try these. (Wish the workboots didn't have the contrast sole.)

Do I really have to have these shipped to try on? Most long-time YLFers seem fully accepting of shopping by mail, so my hesitation probably seems absurd. Are there ways of increasing the likelihood of the right fit the first time?
