Frye boots: talk me down!

These Frye boots are so expensive and are calling to me... I ADORE the fringe look of the long belt things, which are more UWP than boho. But I still have and adore my Gidigio boots, which are in the same vein. Would this be too much of a duplication?

Una, the Gidigio link brings up a slideshow of sorts of all kinds of boots. I'm not sure which ones are the ones you have.

The first link is a bit confusing. I'm not entirely sure which is your existing boot? I looked through all of them and didn't really see any that looked too similar so I don't think there would be a duplication. The fringe/belts are unique and add the perfect UWP feel to the boot. I love them for you!

Oh boy...I don't know which Gidigio are the ones you have, but those are nice Fryes, especially for the UWP. I am sitting on a pair of Frye Kendalls myself, waiting to see if I really need them or just "sort of impulsively" want them.

When I find myself in this type of situation, I order the item, then I try it on once a day for a few days in a row, on my carpet, with different outfits. I find I usually get it out of my system or I KNOW that I want them.

Then again, I am in a wardrobe building phase and I can count on my old frugal tendencies to save me...

The thing that sold me is the description that they were made for narrower calves - Fryes are often way too gappy for me. But I'm not sure if they are too similar! I fixed the link...

Well they are definitely cool, no doubt about that. But don't you think the straps mind drive you a bit nuts with flapping around, getting caught in the car door, getting dirty etc ? Or am I just projecting my fears? I would have the urge to cut about 3 inches off of them. The price also made me swallow my coffee in one mouthful - but if it's in the budget.......

The Fryes are super cool UWP boots for sure, but won't those strappy things drive you bonkers when you walk?

I think your Gidigios are very similar, and perhaps a little better. However, I totally understand boot lust. Go with what your heart tells you.

Will they drive me crazy? I guess I picture myself striding about with the fringe streaming behind me in a strategic low breeze. But that is a good point, and the price is steep.

You might be less twitchy than me. I have a low tolerance for articles of clothing flapping about -- especially anything on my lower legs and feet!

Briefly - it wasn't the flapping but the lack of flattery that did me in. I don't like long fringe on skirts. The last time I wore one a goat tried to eat it.

The Fryes might be wearable in real life but seem like more of a runway/statement/night out type thing.

I, too, think your Gidigios are very similar. But haven't you had them awhile? Maybe they need a closet partner. And those Fryes are very cool. I'm not sure I would love the flappage personally, but I get it visually and would love to look at it; I think it's part of the allure of the style. I keep getting flashes of a Mel Gibson Braveheart kind of moment ... in a good way. Una, striding across a stormy Alaskan scene, with her fringe streaming behind her ....

OK, I think they will sound like a charm bracelet when you walk. They will definitely call attention to you, not just in looks but also in noise level. Another thought, you will not be able to sneak out of anywhere with these on.

Una - a question - when you love something do you stay in love with it? I only know when things really speak to me, there is a rightness about them even when I can't articulate it. If they fit, and I like the description - almost a true equestrian fit with the straps like a horse's mane. I've never seen anything quite like them. I have tell you one of my regrets is not tracking down your gidigios when I saw them. They are totally divine. If these speak to you the same way, then I would try them on. If they are awful you'll send them back. But at least you'll know for sure. I think the only things I regret are letting things get away. I'm a good returner and if I make mistakes and I do, I can live with that. In your locale boots are an almost year round wear, so you deserve really fab ones. I vote a try on!!

I don't envision those straps floating as you walk. They seem too heavy for that. You may just attract more goats.

I like them and they look taller than the gidigios but they are quite similar. I wouldn't have thought of the flappage either. From the link, I have to say that I love them too Una. I just don't know if they would be that gorgeous guy you dated in school who was wrong and you finally had to let him go. *sigh*

Gryffin, great points. I love the Gidigios beyond reason. They have held up like iron, and are still a favorite. These seem a bit more equestrian, as you've said, but with a similar vibe. I don't tend to fall out of love with items I truly love, but I do tend to be drawn to the same things consistently. And I also have a lot of false starts.

If these fit well, there is no question they would be a long term love (assuming the flappage issue was not a concern). The question is: more of the same, or branch out, or status quo?

I love them too. I would be concerned about the flapping/noise issue so would definitely want to try them out first. Especially for the price. I think they are similar to your existing boots but much more unique in terms of style. Keep in mind I love all things Frye so my judgment is totally suspect.

Yeah, I don't see the flappage as an issue due to weight. I think you should buy them and sell me the Gidigios.

I think you'll obsess until you order them and see what they're like. Besides, attracting more goats is not necessarily a baaaaad thing.

We love what we love Una. I think the vibe is different - ultimate moto vs edgy equestrian. You would not confuse them. But here sits a woman ready to try those blonde Eden otk suede boots. Hey waterproof, low heeled, suede but I have the aw otk hammers in leather to me yes similar but different vibe from one who lives in boots. The straps may be annoying or amazing but they are incredibly cool. I think you'll always wonder if you don't try them on. ps. You do go to frequent film festivals if anyone deserves totally cool footwear you do. They would go a long way toward making a stellar outfit just sayin

I like them. I only wonder if they would move around *enough* or if the leather is too heavy. And it occurs to me that they could have a balancing effect on the lower half, for an IT person.
