Frumpy Shoe Check: Ros Hommerson Pewter Flats

Warm weather is here and I need to freshen up my shoes. [As a card carrying member of the "Strangely Attracted To Frumpy Shoes" society, I have decided to get YLF approval on every pair of shoes I ever buy for the rest of my life.]

I don't have any pewter "nice" flats. Are these YLF worthy? They are the Ros Hammerson "Mocha". They are a touch short (my toe hanging over a bit) so I would need to exchange them if they are a keep. Summer is my dominant season so I like peep toes. I pretty much just wear boots in the winter.

I love these!! So cute. Pewter is a great low contrast neutral for me. It goes with everything. If they are available in the bigger size, I would size up.

My favorite non-black shoe color - so versatile. Those look comfortable which is triple bonus.

I like them a lot! Will your feet swell like mine do when it really heats up? These look on the cusp of being small, but I understand that with a ballet flat they have to be tight enough to stay on your feet when you stride. Of course I switch to sandals when it gets *really* hot. I think I just answered my own question!

I am surprised that these might work. I was sure that everyone would comment "I see why you are a card carrying SAFS society member", LOL.

Now, I have to find a 10.5 which is apparently a rare shoe size, harumph.

Claire - I do have hidden 3/4 length Spenco inserts in them for ultimate arch support. They are quite large and always makes my feet look like they are about to "bust outta" my shoes.

Lovely! These are a very versatile shoe. I live flats with a peep toe. No frump at all.

I'm glad you found the right shoes for summer. Regarding orthotics, I wear the Superfeet version of those 3/4 inserts, they don't take up too much space. Have you tried that brand? Also I have one pair of shoes that simply will not accommodate any inserts -- maybe I should have bought them bigger. Are you willing to wear those shoes without inserts if you can't find a bigger shoe?

I second the Superfeet 3/4 inserts. I also like the berry Superfeet inserts for closed shoes. Every time I buy a new pair of shoes I have to spend a half hour or so trying them with different inserts, Footpetals and heel pads. Kind of a pain, but I can wear much cuter shoes now than I did a few years ago.

Size 10 1/2 is difficult to find. Sometimes an 11 will work if it is narrow enough, but not with an open toed shoe. Generally I get a 10 in sandals or peep-toe shoes.

Who knew that footwear could be so complicated? Once upon a time all that mattered was whether a shoe was cute enough.
