Front leg seam on ponte trousers?

I'm thinking about looking for some knit trousers to wear on an upcoming long train trip. There's not a lot out there that I like, but I am thinking about this pair.

I haven't tried them on yet, so they may look awful in any case, but mostly I'm not sure about the front seam. Does this detail look weird, or is it ok? Hopefully I'll be able to find some in person and try them.

Hi Mander. I don't think that they look weird, and the seam might give a long, lean look.You won't know until you try them on.

I don't prefer this detail because the seams go skew when the pants are tight. It seems to work better when the pants are loose.

I can see the seam going either way--giving you long-looking legs or being an unwelcome distraction. I think trying them is the only way to know, unfortunately.

I used to have a pair of stretch pants that had that type of seam down the front and they drove me crazy - because of what Angie says - that seam slid around and just didn't look good with the "skinny" look.

I have a real poisoned eye for that detail. I've never figured out why anyone would want a fake seam running down the front of a knit/stretch pant. Is it to mimic the look of a crease?

No idea, Gaylene, but it seems like the manufacturers have decreed that plus size ladies like it. Nearly every pair of ponte trousers I've seen in my size have this seam.

I wore a pair of charcoal leggings yesterday that have this detail. They're pretty heavy-duty leggings, more like a ponte but very fitted to the leg. I actually like the detail. It doesn't act or look like a crease because these are leggings and so completely fitted, but to me it is a nice extra visual element and adds to the legline. And the lines didn't move around. Personal preference, I guess.

No experience wearing this style, but my neighbor had a similar pair on the other day and looked great. I noticed the detail as she looked comfortable but polished (and confessed that they felt so comfy). So I personally like the look and don't know how much the seam will shift.
