Fried Hair!

My travel blow drier fried my hair! The damage seems to be at the crown where I use my round brush. Maybe I got the drier too close or held it there too long? Maybe it's just a bad blow drier. The damage is just in that section of hair and about 3 inches long on the top layer (at least I have layered hair). It's all frizzy now. Is there anything that will smooth it or do I have to wait for it to grow out?

Have you talked to your stylist? Might be a treatment you can try or a hair serum. I remember using hot olive oil in my hair back in the 80s to try to undo the damage. But, you know, it was the 80s.

I have a spray in product by Revlon called Unique1 that works well but my hair hasn't been that damaged.

I have also used the Joico K-pak and it is an excellent deep conditioning treatment. I think I was getting these frizzy burned looking pieces from too much heat and it helped quite a bit.

Definitely worth talking to your stylist, but you can also give yourself a deep conditioning treatment for a lot less than they'll charge you for it.

yes, people still use olive and other kinds of oil with great success. :p

If you're wanting to control the friz temporarily, a light, silicone based product will let you smooth it down without piling too much styling product on.

I have frizzy hair and use Wen products. They work great because they infuse your hair with moisture. You can get them at Sephora.

I like Aussie 3 Minute Miracle - I've tried pricer hair masks but it works great at a fraction of the price.

My stylist talked me into Oribe hair masque for $64! I was desperate! Geez, I've never spent that much for conditioner. I've only used it once and it seems to help a little - maybe the more I use it the better? I figured there were probably equal products for less. Thanks Cheryl and Thistle for those recommendations. I have a feeling I'll be conditioning for a while.

The problem is the Oribe Masque doesn't really straighten the hair so I was thinking something that I could leave in. Robin, does the silicon product kind of straighten or smooth the hair? Any particular brand?

Colette - I didn't know you could buy Wen at Sephora now. I bought some several years ago from an Infomercial. I really liked it for a shampoo

This may be a dumb question but I really want to use a straightening iron on it. Would I be damaging it more? Isn't hair dead anyway?

Sarah.....Give the Aveeno Leave In Conditioner a try. It's very inexpensive and available everywhere.
I don't spray it directly on my hair. I spray some into my hands and work it into my ends and any other spots giving me trouble before I blow dry. I've used on my dry hair as well if an area needs smoothing out.

Thanks Marilyn. Funny when I first read this I read "Aveda" which I've heard good things about that brand. Then I clicked the link and Aveeno! Surprise! Definetly worth a try.

I use a conditioning non-shampoo cleanser, similar to Wen, called Renpure. It's $10 for 16 oz and I get it at Walgreen's or Target. It seems to be very gentle and no nasty chems like phthalates. Sorry to hear about your hair dryer mishap. So scary. I'm glad your skin wasn't burned.
