Freshening up khaki

I am loving white this season as always. But I do have a pair of khaki walk shorts from last year that are in good condition, look good and allow for a 3 inch belt. Next to white, they look tired to me, so I'm looking for some ideas to revive them.

Hmm....I've learned khaki isn't a good color for me, so I try to avoid it, but I think you might be able to make it more interesting with white, red and black. That's a very classic, sharp combination. Maybe a crisp white blouse, and red cardigan with a black belt over it? Or a black jacket, red top and white shoes?

Also, try your lime motorcyle jacket with the shorts, and a fitted, tucked in white shirt underneath and a red belt (belted in the shorts) and either red shoes or those flats you have that are cream with the white piping. You'll have to try the red and see, though, it might be too much with the lime. If that's the case, try a black belt and shoes, maybe?

I may be odd woman out because I like khaki and wear it, especially on the bottom half of my body.

I like to wear my khaki walking shorts with a black top and a bright cardigan over it. It does depend on what bright colors you prefer on yourself. For me, it's bright light blue.

I also wear them with a chocolate brown top and a white cardigan. It sounds a little boring, but with the right accessories, it works for me.

There's a great new shade of green that I've been seeing around places like AT. It's a cross between a grassy green, a bottle green and a mossy green, except it's not muddy. I have a tank top in that color, I'm going to try that top with my khaki shorts and my white cardigan.

If you have any ink blue, you could try pairing that with something a tad brighter--like lemon yellow or lime green with a pair of white sandals. Or try cobalt and white, or a greenish sea blue with a color in a similar hue but more blue or green.

Certain colors look with khaki, but are not very summery--like red--but you could try to lighten it up and go with a more berry hued red.

Nicole, I've always liked khaki too. My eye has just gotten used to white. Khaki doesn't have the see through issues though ;). In the past I've worn navy with khaki. I'm just not seeing color with it though probably because I want to pair color with white. I like the idea of brown and muted tones. Maybe I will try my red mesh top too. I found this:

How about animal print? That would be on trend and look fresh. For example, this would look great with white, but it doesn't look bad at all with khaki!

Otherwise, how about a top in a floral print (another trend right now)? I'm thinking of my floral top that has red, green, white and khaki in it. Works good with khakis and a red cardigan.

I have another shirt that has a print that has pink and white and brown; throw on a pink cardigan and it looks cute.

A pale, lemony yellow?

I also like black and white striped tops with khakis. Add a handbag and shoes in bright colors.

And I think red always looks great with khaki.

Throw in some white somewhere, if it still doesn't quite look fresh enough.

Another old standby for me (other than black and khaki, which always looks good to me and is a safe bet but can of course get boring), is this sleeveless v-neck sweater I have (very old BR) that is a perfect khaki match. This look isn't for everyone, but being only 5'0, I like playing around with monotone dressing for one long, lean line. The trick is, the top has to be in an absolute sumptious, lux-looking material that has some texture or something special.. .otherwise, blah! For interest layer on a bunch of necklaces and wear fab shoes.

... except I have it in a khaki... or maybe you'd call it stone, not khaki. It's not white, not cream, not khaki. Stone!

I got it last year at the end of the summer, when I finally reached my goal weight. It fits perfectly. So I am definetly going to be figuring out how to freshen it up and make it work this summer!

My old standby white skirt... not so good. I tried it on the other day and I'm realizing that since losing weight it now hangs down too low and kinda overwhelms me!!!

One more... I have this top (the skirt top) in the vermillion - it's not really what I'd call red. It's kind of an orange-ish red. It looks quite nice with khaki.

Shiny, thanks for all of the great ideas! And I love the bcbg skirt. I'm definitely liking the animal print and floral print ideas. I will have to check out that last BR top in red. I've got it in green and it's not the petite one so it should be long enough. But I might even tuck.
