Freebird by Steven boots?

These boots found me on Instagram and I fell in love. The taupe got my attention but I love the cognac and silver too. It’s the distressing and leather laces and the way they processed the photos, I think! I’m unlikely to order with the USD to CA exchange and $25 shipping they are charging to Canada, plus probably duties as well, but I’m curious if anyone knows the brand?

I knew the brand sounded familiar, I believe I’ve admired those sandals on Janet!

Yes, Viva and I have sandals from them — I’m not wearing mine much this year (my heels are being ignored), but they are well made, comfortable and durable!

Thanks for the feedback Janet. Most sandals are on sale and they appear to have lots of sizes in stock. But to your point, I wish they had more cool styles with lower heels (aside from the relatively boring flat slides which don’t tend to be great walking shoes either!). I love a sturdy stacked block heel but not quite so high!

I had the sandals too - same ones as Janet and Vivian . The Steve Madden store here doesn't have the Freebird line anymore, which made me wonder if it wasn't being made anymore. I loved the rough, rate look of my sandals and wore the heck out of them. I passed on mine a couple of summers ago now - they were looking pretty worn and the heels were getting too high for comfort.

Sorry - getting sidetracked with sandals that aren't even in question here Try the Steve Madden Canada website and see if they aren't available here in Canada somewhere.

No worries Lisa I also got interested in the sandals when I took a look. I must admit I have a hard time connecting quality with Steve Madden due to the $100 pair of shoes I bought there that completely self-destructed upon wearing. Which I tried to glue back together rather than bringing back, what was I thinking?!? And now I can't bring myself to go into the stores
Anyway, reading the reviews and looking hard at the stock photos rather than the styled ones, it seems the colours are somewhat misrepresented (ie/ the "taupe" which looks cream in the photo is actually a light blue, the black ones are actually brown according to several reviewers). So I won't take a chance ordering given how much it costs us to ship stuff back to the US. I'll keep an eye out for other cool combat boots available locally this fall.

Jules - YES - a lot of Steve Madden is crap (a la you-get-what-you-pay-for etc) but the Freebird line is higher quality (and higher priced , accordingly). Even when I was buying the sandals , I remember the colours on -line being so far off of what they really were that it was laughable. Also, shades differ between pairs of the same style too. So you couldn't find them here in Canada - I thought SM had a dedicated Cdn website.....?

Lisa, thanks for your notes on the colours being unreliable! It helps me feel I’m making the right decision to pass them by online. I did poke around a bit for Canadian availability but Freebird isn’t mentioned on the SM site. I believe the reason Instagram put their ad in my feed was ‘now shipping to canada’, so I figure that’s the only way. They don’t appear to have much retail at all unless they sell through department stores etc, all they mention on their website are a few stores in Colorado and Utah.

The $100 SM shoes were simple summer espadrilles and literally fell apart in multiple places. So for me they were way lower quality than say $20-30 shoes from Old Navy. Overall yes I do agree, there’s a race to the bottom for both price and quality all over retail, and since we as consumers aren’t generally willing to pay much, we can’t expect much. At which point $250ish for good quality boots doesn’t seem so bad if I could see and try them on first!

Angie you are dead on that these would be ‘my’ (distressed, stompy, off white) white boots, *if* they matched the picture. I find distressing and two-tone finishes are especially hard to assess online.

I also have the sandals, and am still wearing them... but like many others, heels aren't getting worn as much as they used to. I did find them TTS, if you decide to gamble.

Although now that I think of it, I had to get another hole put into one of the straps because it was a bit loose...

Yeah, their heeled sandals look not exactly dated but not super current either! Interesting how times change. I hope this trend towards flatter more comfortable shoes never ends.
