Just to follow up here - the sizing is not consistent nor does it seem to match the sizing indications on their size charts. They charge $8 shipping on returns (no exchanges) and do not provide measurements on their shirts (I e-mailed them to ask and they told me they do not provide this but tried to help by figuring out what size I ordered and "how big" it was). Unfortunately I would not be willing to spend another $8 to try on another size at the price point of the shirts, measurements should be provided on request.
I never got to ask about the weird chemical smell because I was disappointed in not being able to get measurements.
On to the next great shirt....
