FP flared and femme jacket - YouLookFab Forum

One of the good things about coming back from holidays (OK, possibly the only good thing) is finding that my Black Friday goodies have arrived.
I got this knit jacket from Free People. I was going to post this as a keep or return but I think I have decided to keep it. It is a military style knit jacket (tick) in a wine colour (tick, tick). My only hesitation is the ruffles. I am not a ruffles/peplum sort of a girl. I admire that look on others but it generally feels too soft and romantic for me. But never say never, right? I feel like I can do this! Am I right to keep it?

It is now even more heavily discounted, and I thought that it may be of interest to others in the forum. Tanya springs to mind It is very comfortable, quite substantial and also comes in black.

(PS It was 37 degrees when I tried this on so please excuse the sportskirt and summer hair. The last pic shows the jacket with an Alice and Olivia skirt that I got for a steal ($75) and am definitely keeping. The multi colour underlay is more obvious in person and gives it an interesting twist on a standard black midi pencil skirt, I think. I need to fix the lining at the hem!)

You look fab and I vote to keep! The jacket doesn't read overly feminine to me and the peplum + not-quite-ruffles add major interest!

What Brie said. The jacket is wonderful. It is somewhat architectual which makes it seem more your style than a floppy ruffled look would. I love #5. The skirt plus jacket look like a runway outfit to me.

Yes I think both keepers, I see the ruffles as almost 18th century male attire.... It looks super with the sleek skirt and would work well with all sorts of pants.

I like it. I'm not a riffles and peplum kind of girl myself. However, these ruffles and peplum aren't overtly ruffly. They're a bit more subtle, architectural. They keep the jacket from being too military or severe or something. It looks great on you!

I tried it on again this morning and it provoked warm and fuzzy feelings - and not just because of the heat. So I think it's staying.
The peplum is just a different shape from what I am used too. I love the 80s new romantic look but it doesn't seem like me. I generally go for a more streamlined look.
But I am buoyed by all your responses. Architectural ruffle, I like Thanks everyone!

Agree with everyone else. Not a ruffle/peplum gal either but that jacket has so much more going on and its is DYNAMITE with that skirt!!

El Cee, you can see that my hair has declared defeat in the battle with humidity. My GHD (hair iron) is currently on stress leave but will be back next week to resume the fight.
JAileen, I also got my EF poncho! It's lovely but I think I might need a workshop on how to wear it. The neckline doesn't sit straight on me, it sort of forms an asymmetrical cowl neck. Does that make any sense to you? For further discussion...

I can't imagine what would look bad on your cute figure, Brooklyn! This jacket really stands out over a column of color, like you've created in the last photo. It's definitely a special piece to add to your wardrobe!

The 'softened edges' (in lieu of calling them ruffles!) are what makes this jacket so eye-catching, plus the rich color. What a nice surprise you've found!

Brooklyn, I'm going to try on the EF poncho again and take some pictures. I have another poncho in that style that makes sort of a cowl. When I tried on the EF one, my first instinct of how I wanted to wear it put the label in the front, which won't work because of the cowl effect. I can't wear it for awhile because we're having a cold spell. It was 15F this morning. Nothing compared to the Midwest and Canada, but very cold nonetheless.

I love all the buttons, military styling and flared back. I think it'll look great with skirts and dresses.

JAileen, that would be great. The neckline is a bit of a puzzle to me. I thought about backwards too. I would also like to know how Jenn wears hers as a scarf. Whether she just pulls it forward then tucks the tail under. We can workshop it!

Yes this is beautiful on you and not too ruffled. It creates a nice contrast to some of your other jackets and looks stunning with your new skirt.

Great colour, love the button detail on the sleeve. It's a perfect fit.
I don't think I could even try on jackets in in this weather! So it must be a keeper.

Not all ruffles (and peplums) are created equal, some are softer than others, but think this one is on the more structured, arty side so will still match your style, pls. keep!:-).
