Found the best jeans for my biking commute but wrecked a pair...

Found the best jeans for my commuting by bike and got 3....they are light and stretch and when I get to work I put on my ballet flats and change my top. I put one through the wash then dryer and it came out streaky and faded. I'm still wearing them but wonder what I did wrong.

Did you follow the washing instructions Sally? Maybe you didn't do anything wrong, maybe the quality was just poor. I've just bought a pair of dark (called black, seem not quite black to me) cropped jeans to wear with my new boots. They said to wash them separately beforehand as otherwise the dye may rub off on other lighter clothing. They seem still a good colour but not as crisp after that, haven't worn them yet. I also avoid the dryer for jeans. I dried them on a rack inside since we have had so much rain as you know. Hope you were OK in Cyclone Cook. We were good, it seemed to mostly miss Auckland.
I am not totallysure about the quality of all of the stuff at Just Jeans, although Lee Riders is a famous brand that I remember fondly, my older daughter had a great pair when she was a teenager ( now 26).

Yeah I realise it was the dryer. Won't do that again. Well I have 2 good pairs and 1 streaky pair ....thanks Jenni. Yeah I live in Auckland too. It was calm yesterday but I got soaked going for a walk today.

That is great to find a good fit and flexible. I was gonna say hang to dry or air dry flat.

Maybe you should rough-up the streaky ones more and make it look deliberate! Then you have 2 nice pairs and 1 for weekends.

darn! I hate it when that happens.
For the next pairs I'd suggest turning inside out to wash, and using detergent for dark clothes, and line dry.
I've heard about people re-dyeing black jeans before. Maybe someone on the forum has done?

Bummer! I like RobinF's suggestion to distress them and turn them into a weekend wear option.
