found some cropped kick flares in my closet... JFE or no way?

So these are actually jeans that I had chopped years ago to wear as rolled clamdiggers. But I discovered today that if I don't roll them they are basically cropped mini flares like the ones in the last photo below. They have a raw hem with some shreds.

I was not going to buy anything new to try this trend but since I have them in my closet already, what do you think? JFE? I think the platform sandals are the right shoes. Do you think they'd be better with a more fitted/waist-defining top?

Second photo is how I am actually wearing them today, as clamdiggers.

I like them both ways! I was a little afraid to see the pics bc I am not a big fan of this trend but being darker denim I think they're more conventionally flattering. I like the top you've paired them with too. Perfect shoe choice as well. I say wear them!

I think they look on you and they look like your inspiration photos. I'm not sure I'll be wearing this trend because there's such a fine line (with the flared crops) between trendy and dated. I'm worried I'll just end up looking dated.

I love them in pic 1, although you probably knew I would, because I love most things that are JFE. So, so cute on you -- and I really love that you had these just sitting in your closet! WHy not play with the trend, especially because you can so easily go back to wearing them as in pic 2, which will probably never go out of style?

I'm at work and I decided to unroll them and add a semi tuck. Why not, right? Wish I had a belt though for the semi tuck.

I like them both ways. A narrow hem would make the flare a little sturdier and thus more pronounced, which would be nice, but it's not absolutely necessary, I think.

Diana, I really like #1, unrolled, and your story is just as good. To have something on trend in your closet and bring it out as a fresh new piece is what makes fashion so amazing and fun.

I would like them better a little more flared, but I think they look cute. Certainly flattering enough! I like them rolled, too.

Thanks, everyone! I had fun wearing these today, and did not feel frumpy or outdated, so I'll definitely do it again. A fun change.

Sharan, you know, technically I think these are straight legs (I can't remember if they were bootcut or straight before I hacked them, but in any case the part that is left is mostly straight. i think they still read as having a bit of flare because of where they hit on my leg, and the fact that I have chunky calves and skinny ankles.
