Fossil Bag Update

Fossil has requested Nordstrom not to ship its products internationally so I am unable to order the handbag I've fallen in love with. Sweet Anna provided me with a link to another site that has that handbag that does ship to Canada. Here's where it gets interesting...

At Nordstrom, the handbag is selling for $168. On eBags, the handbag is $197 (no big deal), but when I go for Canadian checkout, the handbag suddenly becomes $209 (ok...probably due to dollar conversion rate), with shipping being $30.77, plus duty and suddenly the handbag is now $272.96. Yeah...forget it.

The Bay in Canada carries some Fossil handbags so I think I'll look locally.

I'm becoming less and less inclined to order online due to the additional expenses. I guess that bodes well for my local shops and local economy!

Yay! I love how these things work out because of the kindness and assistance of fab YLF'ers.

TS - just wanted to let you know I also had a similar experience. I was buying a handbag/tote bag for my Mom's upcoming birthday and had asked her best friend which one she thought my Mom would like. Turns out Mom's friend also loved the bag I was thinking of and wanted to order one for herself, but 6pm wouldn't ship to Canada.

So, I ordered two of them. Took them both to Vegas with me and met up with my Mom while she was there on a trip. One was for her birthday present, and the other was for her friend. Friend didn't know I was doing this - it was a suprise gift. She thought she'd lost out on the bag she loved too.

Funny...the matching bags (one for Mom and one for her best friend - they live on opposite sides of the country) are Fossil also!

Not sure if this is helpful or not, but there are Fossil stores in Canada which might be able to ship to you at a better rate as well! e.g., there are several in Calgary AB, one on the East Coast (Halifax NS), likely some in Ontario...

I was going to mention that there is a Fossil store in Calgary. The other day I noticed that they were moving into a bigger location at a mall called CrossIron Mills. Maybe you will get one in Winnipeg, soon. I see that Natalie already is getting one for you. It's probably cheaper that way anyway.

Get this - I found the same handbag at The Bay in my hometown. The price? $298 plus 15% tax for a total of $342!!!

Listen up Canadian retailers...if you want us to spend our dollars locally, you need to keep your prices competitive with our US neighbours!

I was also going to suggest -- for you Shannon as well as anyone else reading this -- to request a price match. Ebags would probably match Nordstrom's price, and the Canadian Fossil might be helpful as well. Many, many retailers will price match. My policy is always: ask really nicely and you'll be surprised what you can get. I never demand, and I end the note with "thank you for considering my request."

Yikes, that's expensive! It drives me crazy that Cdn prices are quite often so much more expensive than US prices. And...ouch!! 15% tax is alot!

Ouch, 12% tax? And I thought the taxes in LA were high! What on earth is all this tax revenue being spent on, and why aren't the budgets in balance?! Sorry, not trying to go off on a political tangent, but... -_____-

Canadian Fossil will NOT price match; I've gone in multiple times to try.

I am so glad to be done with the 12% tax. It used to be 14%. Remember those days? LOL.
