Former NAS item now (already) on markdown!

I just noticed that the Pleonie Roll Sleeve Tunic from NAS is now on markdown! (Although I think there were more colors during NAS).

Is this a sign of our US economic times, or is Nordstrom's changing the way they do sales/markdowns?

I don't have time to look up some of my other NAS 'favorites', but it's sort of nice if you missed the cheaper price. . .

Sometimes Nordstrom marks items down ahead of schedule in response to another major retailer offering the same item on sale.

Nordstrom is annoying me with another tactic lately. I have seen at least three items now that are listed for sale and then the following week they are back at full price (non-NAS items). I understand other retailers have promotions, but with the exception of NAS, usually when it goes on sale it stays on sale at Nordies.

Yep. I bought this leather blazer at the NAS, ended up returning it because the fit wasn't quite right. When I returned it the SA told me "Hmmm... it's coming up in the computer as at the Rack." http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/po.....sultback=0

So in my view, the representations that they would be full price after the NAS were, uh, inaccurate. Nice that they're still less expensive but annoying that Nordie's prices apparently aren't really their prices.

DL - I hear you on the yo-yo pricing! I thought that was mostly Macy's/Bloomingdales online though. Ugh! It makes it even harder to be savvy with your $$.

MaryK - Both NAS jackets already on sale?! That first one still shows on the regular Nordstrom site, so maybe the SA was wrong on the Rack part. But either way, they are clearly marked down. . .and it's only mid-August.

Why can't the Halogen leather pencil skirt be marked down too? Must start stalking. . .

And another thing: I am totally irked because they didn't have the Halogen seamed skirt in purple magenta in petite during the sale, and I bought it in regular, and now they have it in petite. Does anybody know if I can exchange sizes and still get the sale price?

If you have the regular one to bring in and exchange, they really should! I think other's have said it's up to the SA's discretion.

I know there is a disconnect between the regular sizing and the petites (as in searching on other sizes is only within regular, and only within petites.) However, I was able to return two Petite Halogen button-back tops to POV (Regular sizing) and the SA gave me the former NAS price for a Regular one.

That said, if the Petite's were never part of NAS, it may be out of the norm. . .

This SO happens every year!
Which is why I kept a bunch of NAS items on my Nordstrom wish list. Now, if I'd only been smart enough to note their NAS prices so I could tell when to pull the trigger!

Laura - does it really? I've only shopped NAS last year and this year. I think last year, the permanent markdowns didn't start until September (but I could easily have been clueless

If I remember correctly, NAS prices were usually 40% off.

Every year, there are many items that are marked down LOWER than NAS prices, but you usually have to wait until much later in the season. So what Nordies does is great in that if you have an immediate need for fall clothing, you can get sale pricing upfront. If you want to wait until traditional sale time, then you can potentially get a greater markdown at the tradeoff of less wear time.

Yes! It does! And it seems that the post-NAS markdowns are happening earlier each year.

None of the items on my wish list are marked down yet - they were some of the more popular items, like the Halogen tiered leather jacket, and that teal Joie silk blouse - but I'll let you guys know if I see any changes.

Oh and another potentially useful tidbit of information is Nordstrom usually does the bulk of their markdowns on Wednesdays. Unless there is a sale like semi-annual or designer.

Ann Taylor does this too...Customer would be so irritated.
They have special pricing for Style events and the next week drop everything below that...

Taylor, that would annoy me too. It definitely reads as the retailer using a "special" best customer event as a guise to move product out the door at a higher margin before taking the hit on the real sale.

@MaryK, yes you can still exchange for sizes. I got the purple magenta seamed skirt in 2P during the sale. I am just finally resolving my purchases for size. I sent back my last exchanges yesterday.

yup...happened to me last year. so i'm on sarah's team KAWTOFA. i have the item in case it is hot, but i leave tags on so i can return and repurchase.

Yep, this happened last year, too. Many of my 2010 NAS pieces were bought at lower prices after NAS was over.

stores change their policies according to the economy. they have to or they won't profit. think of how you'd do things if you were in charge-you'd be watching the economy too, and thinking about how your customers' shopping habits will change and do things accordingly.

I'm definitely on KTOFAW (or whatever sarah called it ;-). Especially considering it will be a month or two before most of my NAS items can make a debut.

MPJ - the Alexis Bittar pendant I got was 40% off during NAS. I don't remember the bracelet, but it was probably around that discount.

geetha - I bet these are tricky times for retailers! I've heard that even the wealthy who previously never worried about sales, may have gotten spoiled by constant discounts and have become less willing to pay regular retail prices.

Me? -- I just love the constant discounts!
