Thank you to all who offered suggestions earlier today and critiqued the first dress I tried (yuck!)
I went out this evening and tried on a ton of things. There was one long gown that I liked and it was fairly flattering but I really wanted something with sleeves. I also liked the idea of a tuxedo.
I ended up getting a long velvet skirt and jacket with 3/4 sleeves and tuxedo lapels. I also bought a short dress with sleeves that has tiers and beading at the cuffs and shoulders. I have another gala, more cocktail dress level of formal, to which I could wear the dress.
I think I will need to wear a cami iunder the jacket but other than that the fit seems good.
What do you think?
