Formal capsule: shoes - YouLookFab Forum

One of my goals this year is to update my formal wear capsule. Tonight while shopping at DSW with DD to find her bridesmaid's shoes to wear to an upcoming wedding, I think I found shoes for my capsule:

I got the "gold" version which is quite interesting, depending on how the light hits, they look pewter, bronze *or* gold. Kind of indescribable. I am thinking this is an advantage in that they'll be quite versatile, whether I want to accessorize with gold, or silver, or whatever. I like that they aren't screaming gold or silver, yet are still glitzy and scream "special occasion."

The best part? They are SUPER comfortable!!! I was truly amazed. I normally cannot wear a heel this high, but magically, I can wear these. I pranced around the store for awhile in them, no problem. And no rubbing or digging straps anywhere. Totally happy feet.

I can ask Yay or Nay but even if the Nay's outweigh, they came home with me already.

More background for those who don't already know:

DH and I typically wind up going to several formal events during the winter season. This past winter I belatedly realized this is one area that sorely needs a major refresh. On the list: a new dress or two -- something that will be wearable for multiple years. A new clutch, in the dressy for special occasions category. And new heels. Check that last item off the list!

Yay for you, Shiny! Those must be amazing shoes. I looked at the heel height and thought "Yikes!" I think they will be quite versatile too, like you wanted.

Those are beautiful. I like the color and the way you describe it--those kind of changeable metallics are so fun, and they go with everything. I wonder if you'll want a second pair of closed-toe shoes, since you're looking at winter events. Not instead, but in addition.

These are beautiful and a great price. The color sounds wonderful. It sounds like it will bookend your hair color. Are the straps an elastic material? They look modern with a suggestion of ankle straps yet also have a classic look.

Firecracker, I don't find closed toed shoes to be any more warm than sandals like these. Yes you can wear hose I suppose, but hose (of the formal type - sheer and/or fishnet) don't really add all that much extra warmth.

I've got this winter-formal thing down to a science now: I wear winter boots to get to the event, wading through snow and ice, and swap out once I arrive!! For awhile I was wearing oxfords but even those slip and slide on the ice.

If it is so cold I don't want to wear pumps or sandals like this indoors, then I just wear my black suede dress boots -- with thick socks and hose. I do that often but there is still room for something strappier like this. It's just that I had not found any comfortable ones. And comfort is the first requirement.

DonnaF - yes, these fit my feet and ankles like a glove. I think also the last itself is designed for my feet, arch is perfectly positioned. If it wasn't, there's no way a heel this high would ever be comfortable. I feel just-right balanced in these.

Joy-- yes, the straps are somewhat elastic, though I don't think they are elastic. It's possible they are. I didn't study them quite that close, but now that you mention, perhaps that's the secret. I see the description says it has a "fabric" upper.

Lovely shoes. I'm sure you look very elegant in them. Because of the ankle booties I saw you wearing in many of your outfit pictures last winter I had to copy. BTW, I like mine alot. Thank you.
I have a funny story to share. I went shopping with my sister and saw a shoe I feel in love with, but alas, they were heels. "Oh, I can't get these!" "Why not? you like them. Duh!" I bought them and I've worn heels many times since. I am in a wheelchair.

Ruthe, if I was in a wheelchair, I'd blow a significant portion of my fashion budget on heels -- the highest, tallest, most treacherous but beautiful....

Yes, Angie, I think so.. having just a tiny bit of leather covering my toes doesn't leave me any warmer than baring them, although it is easier to wear hose with closed-toed pumps, but those don't necessarily find me all that much warmer either!

If it's that cold then I would just wear tall suede boots + socks + tights.

Wearing Uggs TO the event, to swap into strappy and shamelessly toe-baring sandals in dead of winter with lots of snow once I get there... can be done!

Especially if I add to my formal capsule a gown, full length... on my list...

Ah yes. Swapping out footwear can be done. I do think that hose at that time of year is a must though.
