Ok, attaching a better variety of shots comparing the tall and short modes and also this boot to the Frye Julias. Sorry the pics and outfits kind of degenerated as I went on and got super hot changing in and out of clothes. :T
Una, the leather is much, much softer than the Julias, which I love. Makes 'em feel less heavy and unbalanced once the coat comes off. Also may mean they will scrunch more at the ankles eventually and sit lower - just a theory.
#1 is the Julia measured from under my kneecap to top of boot. Just over 3 centimeters.
#2 is the Ugg Cortona (boot in question) measured the same way. Juuuust about 4 centimeters.
#12 is my sad attempt at showing how the two compare side by side. The idea was to hold the tape measure across the underside of both kneecaps, but between the different heel heights and holding both tape measure and camera, it's kinda tilt-y.
3-11 are not real stylings per se; just to get the idea of how they look with a) bulkier coats, b) bare legs, c) higher hemlines and floatier tops, and d) pants. Tried the pants full length and also converted to cropped length a la Angie's Beatle boot post. Thinking the tall version is possibly too tall for skirts unless tights are involved.
I feel too hot and tired to make a final decision right now, but I do really like them. I can see them being way more comfy than my current brown boots for work. Love the heel, the warmer brown, the softer leather, and the fact that DH says they have a "cool, Firefly look." Usually, when I think something has a cool, Firefly look, DH thinks it looks costumey.
