I liked the article too. I love clothes and style and want to retain that love. But for three reasons I feel more strongly about not wasting or buying frivolously.
1) Uncertain economic times - a mix of investing more into the business, and the general political situation make me disinclined to overspend. Of course if we all cut back then the economic position worsens even more. So choosing who gets my money is even more important.
2) My Mother In Law passed away in December and we cleaned out her possessions. It was quite awful how much stuff was going to the dump or the thrift shop. The recycled shop at the dump advised us there was no demand for her sofas etc. Some was sent to an estate sale but her four children had very little need or space for her things although we kept some sentimental items (jewelry, paintings, glassware).
3) General awareness of not buying items with a short lifecycle.
At the moment I am not finding it difficult, but I know that will come as the weather cools and I see tempting autumn/winter pieces.
Mindful purchases that create long term happiness is where I am aiming for.
