Thanks for posting this Anna! Over the last couple of years I've bought more stuff from OS, whether Ebay or places like Shopbop. You should see how much Miz Mooz shoes go for here, it's ridiculous.
I do fear that it's going to come to an end, like maybe the government will pass a law so we can't shop internationally, or we have to pay extra levies for doing so. There's little incentive to buy pretty much everything I like (makeup, shoes, clothes, perfume, books!) here otherwise.
On the other hand, although USA has created a society that seems to be geared around shopping and making it as accessible as possible, we do have a lot that you don't, like free universal health care, higher wages, better unemployment benefits etc (not that ours are truly adequate, but they are closer to it). I'm not trying to talk Australia vs USA, rather, I'm saying a society can do well in one area sometimes only through doing less well in another. What is the tradeoff, in other words.
