A pair of geese have made their home in the middle of a large parking lot of a SAIL store in an area of big box retail stores and malls. SAIL is a big outdoor sporting goods supplier like MEC or LLBean. (It is where I picked up my new Tilley Hiker Hat!). This is the second year the pair has nested there. The clerk at the store says they successfully hatched and fledged some chicks last year. This year there is a poster asking folks to leave them in peace and some 'DANGER' tape around the meridian where they have made their nest.

The male is much less aggressive than he was last year and doesn't rush out at cars and people the way he did last year. DH (a wildlife biologist) speculates that the pair has figured out humans will not harm them, and they are safe from most predators that would normally harass them. They are about 3km as the bird flys - ) from Lake Ontario - the nearest body of water.
