Angie-here's my full house +1 explanation

A full house in card games means you have cards in two numbers- a pair and a three of a kind. So 2 aces and 3 kings for example.
I took that idea and adapted it to outfit colors, cause it makes me feel more pulled together.

I like wearing outfits with no more than 3 colors. For example- I'm wearing olive, cognac, black today.

The three of a kind is cognac- shoes, bag, and I'm counting skin today cause it's summer and my arms and legs are bare. Hair could be counted as an instance of a color too.
The pair is black- my blouse and earrings.
The singleton is olive- my skirt.
3+2 (the full house) + 1
Make sense?

Aha! Cards - which I don't play.

This part makes sense to me:

I like wearing outfits with no more than 3 colors.

The rest is a bit of a blur I'm afraid

Interesting! I would be a full house person without the +1 - usually only two colors (although one might be in a print so there are those extra print colors). Something to think about next time I am putting together an outfit.

So a 3 color outfit could be say a blue dress, white sandals, and orange bag. Ok- but not exactly intentional.
The dress could count as 2, cause it's a top and bottom together.

If you add white rim glasses and a white bracelet, or orange nailpolish and an orange scarf on the bag, it fits the formula and looks intentional

I don’t play much cards, but it sounds like you’re aiming for 3 colors total, with 3 items in one color, 2 items in the second color, and 1 item in the third color? And this would look more intentional and/or harmonious than having an equal number of items in each color? I can see that rule working in a lot of situations!

Suntiger, in other words, when assessing an outfit, you're looking for a match of colour in at least two ways so that the look is more visually pulled together. The colour match can come from body parts too - like hair, skin tone, eyes, teeth etc. But not all three colours in the outfit to find their double somewhere.

I mostly stick to two colors but will try to add a third color more often for the full house look. Good idea
My July 4th look this year will be coral ( or orange), navy and white.

Haha definitely not Full House the show
Glad my formula may be useful for some of you!
And yes- Angie My winter outfits have more pieces, so more representation of each color, but that base needs to be there so I don't feel chaotic.
