Here is a question on how to tell when you are over-duplicating or going too deep into one style vs. when that is actually a style statement in itself.
I came across a couple of pairs of shoes/shooties from Circus by Sam Edelman. I like the stability of the chunky rubber heels and the fit is good with minimal gap compared to some other styles.
1--patent chunky oxford (black is what I brought home in my size, but might yet be able to track down the dark blue, which is "softer" looking and different, for me).
2--pointy shootie--fits solidly. Interestingly to me, the toe on these reads more modern. though the heel is chunky. Not sure about the silver studs because they're really eye-catching and might be too much for my style. Pewter or black would be better. May be too Western though the fit is a draw.
Dilemma--both of these are comfortable and something I would have been glad to have this past year with dark tights and skirts or with some pants and jeans, and from a comfort standpoint, will still need that level of comfort this fall.. Even though footwear trend is currently more refined, I can't utilize a lot of those styles and still have a need for more comfortable shoes for a lot of work days. For adding a bit of heel, the chunky rubber type is the most do-able.
But, it's now spring 2014, and these are hmm, 2012 issue? and would be more for fall --so would only get a bit of wear-now before warm weather.
How do you stay stocked up on items that really work for your real life and balance not worrying about lagging behind the trend curve here and there, vs. knowing whether you've got goggles on and need to resist getting stuck? It takes a lot of energy to find a "most-refined " comfortable shoe vs step out and BE chunky.
Does the fact that these are not "classic" influence your thinking--i.e., would another pair of good ballet flats be sensible, but not a chunky heeled oxford?
3--Also shown for contrast in style direction is my first D'Orsay flat to try--a Betsey Johnson that fit remarkably well and appears to "stay on". Also a sale item, but that is a goal for this type of shoe, which can't be an everyday shoe for me--is for fun on select occasions. And I also wonder when it will be peaking, fashion-wise!
I could keep them unworn and return for store credit in the fall if they seem so over. Or do some more stylings to see if the home mirror test cools off the love. Or return now, stay focused on summer, and anticipate the fall footwear winds to blow something better my way.
