Help! I'll be spending the weekend running around Chicago with some friends (the good news) and the weather is going to be 75 degrees (more good news) with thunderstorms (bad news!!).

So clearly, 75 degrees is too warm for riding boots. Normally I would wear ballet flats or oxfords, but those will not survive a thunderstorm. I have a pair of black patent leather Naot booties that could work. Or do I need to buy a pair of rain boots?

What would you wear?

J. Crew sometimes sells something similar, although their shoes tend to be too narrow for my feet. I also want to get a pair of rain boots, but they're just too hot when it rains here in the summer.

Do you think those rain flats work? I mean, I guess your feet get soaked but who cares because the shoes are plastic, right?

I thought I remembered you posting a thread with a similar question years ago, Ana. I actually searched for it but couldn't find it! I am sure in Austin you deal with this regularly.

I might look at Angie's rain boots article that she linked to the other day and see if I can order something from Zappos, because I could still get them before the weekend. I don't think Hunters (which I could buy at our Nordstrom) will work because they are tall and I'm not

This is a tough one, we talk about it here every Spring ! I have a pair of Aquatalia booties that I wear. In a real downpour, almost nothing will do except a waterproof leather boot/bootie or a rubber one.

I just want to mention that rain flats do not work for me. If it is raining hard, all that splashing around just goes into the shoe.

Mine is very similar to the following, except mine is smooth, matte leather.

It's a struggle for me to figure out what to wear in hot weather rain. I feel like rubber boots are the only way you're going to keep your feet very dry, and I think boots would be my choice in 75 degree weather. I have one pair of patent ballet flats that I wear in the rain, which get my feet very wet and soak into the lining. But when the rain is hot and it's hot outside, I don't mind if my feet get wet, because it means they dry very quickly too. I'd rather not wear rain boots because it's just too hot above 85 degrees. I planned to buy rain boots and rain flats last year, but then it never rained and so it seemed like a waste of money. I haven't decided if I will get flats this year. I like the basket weave pair I posted because they look like they dry out fairly quickly. : )

I have a pair of ballet flat Crocs which I usually use as beach, pool, camping footwear however I've used them in conditions you describe instead of regular shoes which would get ruined and it's too hot for wellies x

I'd wear an old pair of ballet flats that you're almost done with. I've seen the "jellies" at J.Crew and the Croc sling-backs, both of which might be a good investment if you often have this type of weather.

I actually saw some cute Croc sandals at Endless.com -- rather strappy platforms in pretty colors. Have never seen them IRL, however,

I grew up in hot, humid and rainy weather! We would swap out our shoes at school and wear rubber slippers outside. And wellies.

I wore patent leather booties all over Napa valley in the rain during vacation and my feet were happy and dry.

75 degree is the PERFECT weather for COWBOY boots! Why get rubber booties that make your feet sweat when you can break in a pair of cowboy boots and get them perfectly weathered? Just my two cents...

I wore my Kate Spade rain ballet flats in a pretty big storm Monday - no socks.
The tops of my feet got a little wet but it wasn't like the shoe filled up with water or was squishy wet. I didn't jump in puddles though - Rain Boots make me want to do that

Cowboy boots is a great idea too.

Hmm, when it's truly muggy *and* muddy, I go with Crocs ballerinas. Mine are muddy-coloured for extra camouflage (They *call* them chocolate, but...!) And that's for weather when there's plenty of muck on the ground and you're like to slip-slide right onto your behind with all but the most traction-heavy rain boots.

OTOH, rain boots (wellies) are fab for wading and splashing when you can't see what you're stepping into (eewwww!) but are reasonably certain of firm ground underfoot.

I like IK's idea, though --- wish I could find a pair of them cowboy boots!

Such a range of thoughts! This one is for sure a challenge. I'm thinking of bringing those Naot booties, which have a rubber, platform sole, and I'm going to order a pair of wellies from Zappos today.

Now to make sure I have a decent, functioning umbrella (it seems that whenever it's pouring and I pop up my umbrella, I discover that it is mangled). How I wish I had a trench with a hood!

I have a pair of Crocs ballet flats that I wear in the rain, and noticed a new style in the window the other day that I might check out. I was a Crocs skeptic for a long while, but they are surprisingly comfortable and not expensive.

So like Ana said, the JCrew outlet is where I saw rain ballet slippers last (early March).....they were marked down to $20 and there were buckets full.....I know this might be too late to use immediately; however, when the Factory store pops back up tomorrow online....perhaps they will be listed?
