Food pics #11 (and what is with the mayonnaise in NL?)

It has been a while since I've started a food pics thread, so maybe monthly? Anyway, I just had to post because I have a burning question for Angie or ANYONE who knows the answer!

I'm in Rotterdam, and the food has been amazing - especially the seafood, bread, and cheese. Pastries and good coffee, too! However I have to ask what is it with mayonnaise in NL? Mostly I've seen it served with fries/chips, but last night my meal came with a beautiful bread - a pat of butter, and a dish of mayonnaise!?

1. 6 different vendors contributed to our meal at the Foodfactory - 1. Cheese, 2. Meat, 3. Bread and cookies, 4. Apple/pear juice, 5. Beer, 6. Coffee. We sat at a table in the central part and enjoyed a wonderful casual meal.

2. Seafood penne at the New York Hotel

4. My choice, a slice of Pavlova

PS: a shout out to Adriana! Thanks for the hints/ideas. Both food places were great! We also had a fabulous meal at Bazar.

You need to understand that the Dutch LOVE mayonnaise. It is served as a condiment with almost every meal. It's a sweet eggy mayo. (LOVE). Cultural.

Lol, that's just really funny. One of my work children is Norwegian American and I tease her because she hates cheese, sour cream and mayonnaise, among other things. 'Nordic' food basically, which is my mainstay. I say, 'What are we to do with you?!' She gave me a recipe for a potato salad with curry and without the 'white stuff' and I tortured her by throwing it in...

OMG now i have to go the the Neatherlands, because i love mayo! i'm the girl who embarrassed old family friends when they took my sisters and i to a NYC Jewish deli, and i ordered pastrami with mayo

Update: DH and I watched much of the Elite Men's race from a cafe we discovered day 1. The cycle route circled by 4 times. Shared a table with the baker's brother who was live-streaming the race.

Hi Carla, I have not checked my favorite site for a few days. And because I wondered how you did I'm looking through your posts. Congratulations with your results. Wow. The weather was horrible. The coldest ever in september I heard. Glad that you liked the restaurants. Have fun the rest of your trip. And yes I'm also fond of mayonaise.
