This quiz and it’s answers are very interesting and may be surprising to many. A needed dose of perspective on what actions actually make the most difference to the environment. Full disclosure: I did not do well on this test, but I learned a lot, some of it encouraging.

One of my dear friends — who is one of the most progressive, environmentally-savvy, and wildlife-conservation-minded people I know — said he did really poorly on it too.

Seems we all need more education on this!

It is interesting...... and prompted me to add a worm farm at work today.

I can fall into one of two (or three traps)

1) Become overwhelmed and full of despair about the future.
2) Feel like I am doing my part and others (governments/countries/individuals are not)
3) Feel like I am a contributor for flying, eating meat and dairy and having two children.

I have one friend who will not fly at all. I have another that fly from NZ to the US and other places multiple times annually - one trip to Europe, two to the US, Australia and Pacific Islands.....Of course my carbon footprint is between the two so who do I compare myself to?

Super interesting. Did ok on food, bombed on everything else. I wonder how they came to their conclusions... or why the standard of ‘cars off the road.’ I also wonder about electric cars, the sustainability, the doability. We’d crash the grid right now if everyone had an electric car. We have lots of grid problems. The batteries are unbelievably toxic and electronics require ‘rare’ materials. And it’s been awhile since I last looked, but a gas Honda Civic was on par with electric when I was looking into it... and way more affordable for the common person.

Very interesting! Many of these surprised me but overall I didn't do as bad as I thought I would. Although I did get a 0 on one of them, yikes!

Janet, thank you so much for this. I did REALLY well on some questions (perfect) and REALLY badly on others! So my overall average was pretty poor. But this is so fascinating and I am going to get my family members to do it also. And then talk about which changes we can personally make.

I enjoyed this and learned a bit. DH who is a science professor at an environmental science college hated it. He did not think there was enough information provided to make decisions or good enough information to support the answers.

Interesting, but like Rachy I question some of the logic and wonder how they arrived at the numbers. If somehow everyone went out and bought electric cars we’d had new problems on our hands. Whereas investing in energy efficient train systems would presumably mean fewer people buying cars at all and less taking planes for short trips.

If it makes people feel any better, this topic is directly related to my job, and I did really poorly on the quiz. In fact, I am pretty sure that I have taken the quiz before, and am not sure I did better on it the second time than the first! The way it's put together makes it just a really difficult quiz.

Sarah, thanks for the additional link. I posted this in a forum; discussion started off with a guy saying "this is bullshit" and another coming along and whining about killjoys. Ugh. I'd like to think that actual info might help that. (But the first guy, before the 2016 election, responded to a question about his support for DT after some outrageous thing the candidate said by saying "yeah, he says a lot of stuff". Facts might not be the way to go with him.)

There are some things I think they made too many assumptions on in the quiz, like the source of electricity to power those vehicles, but I thought it could be a good conversation starter.

I think this is excellent, as it shows the complexity of the problems, but also that some of the solutions are infinitely do-able, and that we as individuals DO have some ability to influence things for the better without having to move off the grid and stop driving forever (reducing meat consumption and throwing out less food, for example).

It also shows how sometimes the most impactful solutions are not the most glamourous, which sadly in probably why politicians oftten focus on the solutions that 'look' good rather than do good. I suppose it would be hard to get elected on a platform of refrigeration chemical reform, but still too bad no one has the integrity to try it ... and at least one government I know (my own) bangs on about the environment while subsidizing the beef industry and silencing it's critics. *sigh*
