I was feeling quite discouraged when Carla started that thread a while back, but it turns out at least I'm finishing the year strong! Hubs came home from a meeting a month ago with a colleague who habitually runs 8 miles a day, inspired to get back into shape, so he vowed to run a mile every day for a month.

Well, I decided I couldn't be a lazy slacker while he is doing this, so we agreed to do it together (actually running together when possible, but at the very least holding each other accountable when our schedules don't make that a reality).

I missed one day -- the day before yesterday -- because it poured rain nearly all day, and I had dental work that left me first numb and then sore and not wanting any kind of high impact activity. So I doubled up yesterday and ran two miles instead. Actually, most days I've run the better part of two miles because if I'm going to get sweaty, I prefer to get in a full half hour of cardio while I'm at it.

I've been pleasantly surprised that my fitness level had not fallen as badly as I thought it had. I walk a lot and include intermittent bits of running, but I have not been running steadily with the goal of unbroken running in several years. We were on the road for a few days and used hotel treadmills, and by doing that, I discovered that I can run a mile with no walk breaks if I stick to a slow 4.5 or 4.6 mph pace -- bump it up to 5mph and I have to walk a bit. Yeah, I'm slow AF but I always have been. I am still kind of amazed I can do it at all (I never ran in my life until I was 46, then did a few half marathons and a bunch of other events, and stopped when I had a hysterectomy).

I don't enjoy running, but I like the sense of accomplishment I feel when I finish! I'm going to find a 5K for hubs and I to run together, maybe in February or March. Here's to finishing out the year on a healthier note, and starting the new one in a similar fashion!
