Folding cuffs

Angie always looks so good when she pops her collar and folds her shirt cuffs. Mine seem to work when I have a sweater or jacket over the shirt, but not alone. Any tips so they don't look like floppy ears? Thanks.

I'm curious, too- In fact I'd like to know how to get a popped collar to stay put. Does it entail the use of a lot of starch?

I did overhear Angie giving Laura a few tips on the popped collar. The one that stuck the most securely in my mind is that it helps tremendously to button the top button of the shirt.

Great tips on the collar and mine seem to work without the use of starch, but one fact is that all my shirts are the non-iron variety, so that type of fabric may help with the "pop."

Hopefully, others will chime in on the cuffs. I know Rae has a great trick for denim jackets.

I just like to be totally relaxed about floppy cuffs. As long as other elements of your outfit are sharp I think it works.

I button one of the buttons on a two button cuff, usually the top not the bottom, nearest your hand button. That helps, yet still gives a little open feeling when cuffed.

Vicki it's so strange, I was looking down at my cuffs just today thinking the same thing and seeing the same thing too! I think we may have the same shirt: is it Club Monaco?

Denise, I'll try the upper one-button technique on the cuff and see if that helps. Krish, we must be on the same wavelength. The shirt is a Banana Republic, like the o e Suz took on her recent trip to NYC.

Vicky, guess what. I checked on my shirt and low and behold, it is Banana Republic. The one with little buttons in the back. I was completely off in the field! So I really was looking down at the same cuff!

This is the no-iron BR shirt, right? LOVE it.

My collars also stay popped no problem. Cuffs can be tricky. I really like Mary K's suggestion. I had never thought of that. My other solution is to roll them more than once, but that's a very different look. A get-down-to-business (and paradoxically more casual) look.

I do find that the no-iron fabric plays a role...I have a regular (needs ironing) cotton shirt and it is deliberately made so you can roll the cuff back (with a little seam); that one works really well.

I keep one button buttoned closest to the wrist, or just roll them up a few more times. But some other great suggestions here I'll have to try.

I usually just let them be floppy ears, but my style has a good dose of slouch in it If I need them to be crisper, I will button and push up though usually that won't go as far up my arm.
