When you want to not completely defy your own style, but you don't feel like getting sent to the principal's office today, what is in your arsenal for stealthy incognito looks?

I'm not sure what you mean...outfits that make you blend into the woodwork? Outfits that make you look like the others you will be around? Something else.

Skinnies with a comfy top (both in solid neutral colors) and flats or chunky heeled booties. I still do up my makeup and hair tho. Will try to find the WIW I have in mind...

Right. Blues (navy, workshirt blue, light blue, NOT cobalt, electric blue or turquoise) and browns. Knit tees in pale pale pastel mints and peaches, but note these always get worn with a plain cardigan or hoodie.

Jewelry: None, but button earrings OK and a small matching ring.

Shoes: Sensible

A navy or grey fleece also really knocks things back. A quilted jacket isn't too bad either.

....Oh wait, without defying your own style. No, I have to defy style all together to fly under the radar.

Jeans or black jeggings + plaid flannel + riding boots is a boston staple.

Or black on top + denim + black shoes is another easy one for me. The black things can be more arty but since they're black they won't be super eye catching.

Eta: photo. The boston winter uniform. Would swap snow boots for riding boots if no snow, obviously.

They are Sorel Sorelia Earharts. Unfortunately discontinued, which is too bad because they are great and not puffy or hairy!

No pops of color. No jewelry. No color; all neutral. No colored nail polish. No pattern. No texture. No shine. I own a lot of neutral clothing but I always try to incorporate pattern, texture, and shine.

I have also felt that as a woman in my 60s, I have also become invisible at least in certain stores. Like Sephora.

My first thought was, well, that depends on the scenery.

In the city where I live, my winter outfit to "blend in" would be a lot like Diana's. Skinnies tucked into boots, puffer, a sweater (probably a dark one). In warmer temps, jeans or shorts, sandals, a tee.

Anything dressy, very bright, or trendy immediately makes a person stand out around here.

I had a day like that today. I put on my planned outfit for work--a print dress, leggings, and cardigan-- and felt I wanted something "easier" and less noticeable. So I settled on basic black straightleg pants, a black shirt, and a teal waterfall cardigan. I knew I looked good, but not in an attention-getting way. My energy was low today, and this outfit felt just right.

If I truly wanted to blend into the woodwork, I'd wear a black cardi instead of the teal.

MsMary and Carter - I was specifically considering myself in a situation of a company retreat for my small creative and high tech company. I wanted to not stand out, you know?, and I wanted to come off as unintimidating.

My first thought was to reach for something light pink and a cardigan, of all things. (I own nothing pink except shoes.) I must have been trying to psych myself out by trying to go J Crew on the gang, when, really, all these ideas about simple shapes, fabrications and colors - and black! -make way more sense, when trying to blend in. (What I ended up with, below, with grey skinnies.)

ETA This outfit was because I didn't think to post the question to the forum until after the event. But *next time* they won't even know I'm there!

Well your outfit looks like it was lovely! and the the color palette is restful.

My take if it's a casual event is denim and dark neutrals, no jewelry, no pattern usually and mainstream silhouettes and shoes (kind of like the French minimalist dressing). The minimum of layering. If it's really casual or active then gear. If it's a more formal event, the same thing, but maybe a wrap dress, pencil skirt, or flowy trousers instead of denim.
