Flutter sleeve top - blush pattern vs wine

I still like the pattern in the blush version, but I know the purple/wine color is a better color on me. No makeup in these pics. (but I did just get my hair cut today!) Thoughts?

Bonus: my bronze bargain finds — cheap cheap cheap booties from Charming Charlie’s (everything marked way down since they are closing) are surprisingly comfortable, and another crazy Bao Bao copycat bag I found on Amazon while looking for something completely different (also a steal so I couldn’t resist!). Worn today with a plaid shirt and skinnies for my hair appointment.

The burgundy and blue sequins are much more flattering for your coloring than the blush, but I do see why the blush pattern appeals. I LOVE the bronze booties and bag. Bronze is my favorite metallic.

Janet, what are you thinking? Do you like the wine colored blouse better than the blush? To me, the blue top seems more your style. If it were me, I would feel much more fab in the sequined top. I think it looks great on you.

He sequin top is easier to wear — it doesn’t wrinkle the way the flutter sleeve top does. There is a little puckering around the neckline of the flutter-sleeve top (both versions) that defies steaming. That does annoy me. The fabric on the flutter-Sleeve top is kind of delicate — it is that satiny fabric that seems to get tiny snags. Those are hidden in the patterned version but seem more obvious in the dark solid — same goes for wrinkles. Patterns hide all kinds of flaws. :-/

I think the sequin top could stand a little alteration to take some excess fabric out of the waist area — just a little slimming through the body would make it hang better, I believe. But I don’t know if I can get that done before a week from today. I wouldn’t mind wearing it as is on vacation and having the alteration done later.

OK. After thinking about this, here are my 2 cents.

The blue sequinned top is a slam dunk. It is your colour and your style. It looks FABULOUS on YOU. From what I've seen of your tops, I believe that it is unique (not a repeat of anything you already own.) in other words it is a no brainer and you should keep it and get it in to rotation right away.

Between the blush and the wine, I vote the blush. The interesting detail gets lost in the wine, and the top is kind of ordinary in that colour. There is something about the blush top's design that confirms your arty style, but there is also something that is DIFFERENT ENOUGH (colour AND style) that it feels (to me) that you are wanting to experiment or push at the edges of what you know and what is safe.

In conclusion-the blue top is too wonderful to pass up. The blush is more of a risk (will you wear it?) but maybe that is what you want?

Thanks, everyone! Carla, you get me. you’ve distilled my emotional reactions to these tops quite well, which helps me.

I want to like the solid wine colored top more than I do. I thought that would be the slam dunk, but the fabric is a little too fussy — the blush patterned version doesn't seem quite so wrinkle prone and delicate somehow.

I feel like the blue is more *me.* The blush is a wild card, but maybe I already have that kind of territory covered a bit with the Zara blouse I got earlier this year. The Zara blouse really works best with bootcuts so it’s a little more limiting. Trying to figure out if I can really justify another blouse (besides the blue sequin).

I think of them all the blue is killer. Followed by purple. The blush is nice too though! You can’t go wrong, especially if you feel fab in it. Those bronze boots are fabulous. I bet you can pair them with a lot. What a deal!

This is interesting - I still like the blush top. I love the cut on you and prefer it to the blue - not that I have anything but praise for blue sparkles. I just prefer the cut of the blush. And I think I prefer it to the burgundy but would try it with jackets to be sure.

I really like the blush on you - dressy and very elegant. The burgundy seems more ordinary and while I like the blue, it would need alteration. Neither has the same wow factor.

I feel bad disagreeing with Angie, but I think the blue is best too. And I think the blush colour looks better than the wine.

The blush is my runner up, the pattern is lovely and works well with the interesting cut. The only question mark is whether you will feel comfortable in the colour. I think it looks very good on you and you could perhaps add some strong lipstick or dramatic eye make up.
The burgundy comes third. The colour suits you very well indeed, but the top in itself is not as good in this colour. The pattern gives the top more polish.

Oh I've thought the wine will have a visible pattern, too! I kind of lost the interest for the wine and like the blush better now from these two esp. with the bronze shoes-but blue flutter sleeved sequined top is best of all only am not sure about the bronze shoes with it are fighting for attention. So a darker shoe will look better and will make a stylish column of color.

Just a note: This was not necessarily really how I intend to style the tops -- I just put them on with the jeans and boots I happened to be wearing yesterday. I do like the blush-bronze combo though.

For the record, it's not that I don't like the navy blue top - I DO. I find the silhouette of the blush blouse more flattering, and the style looks better in blush than in burgundy.

I agree, Angie. I think a little alteration on the blue top would help. It's one of those very straight cut things that could use a little shaping. I pinned the side seams a little to see what would happen and I think it would work. Like I said, probably too late for Nordstrom to do it in time before we leave on vacation, but I may do that after we come home.

FWIW the puckering at the neckline of the blush blouse would literally drive me crazy. I know it has a cool silhouette but I'd want that in a better fabric. I also feel like it's too "uncertain" for you and you may not wear it enough due to that reason alone. If it were me, I'd get the blue (which looks fab on you) altered and keep looking unless you just really want something new and different and like that it's on trend.

Well, this is interesting. I like the silhouette of the blush top but agree with the problems it presents -- if you were wearing with a jacket it might deal with the colour issue a bit. The wine is a better colour for you but kind of makes the top more boring.

The blue is lovely -- but not as perfect a cut for you. Darn!! However, it still looks great. Also, it occurred to me that when the bell sleeve trend is done the sleeves on that could be easily altered and it would still make a great piece under a blazer.

Tough call. The blush looks great with the bronze shoes, super combo. Ultimately, I agree the blush is better than the burgundy. The print adds to the romantic vibe. It feels much more special. But -- that puckering the neckline would bother me. I'll be honest, I'd probably return due to fabric quality. The blue sequin top seems like it's much easier for you to wear -- but I do understand how it feels when something suits so easily it feels like the element of surprise/challenge is missing. The blue top does not have that wildcard flavour.
