Fluevog operetta family shoes: dated toe shape?

Question for those of you who own Fluevog operetta family shoes (like the malibran): Are you still wearing them or are you finding the very snubbed toe shape a bit dated these days? I've been wanting to try them forever, and have been told that the heel is super comfy, but keep going back and forth about the toe shape.

Am tempted by the green ones in the second pic as well. The first ones are the malibrans.

Still love mine. Yes, they're more "cute" and a little less "fashion forward" The nice thing about Fluevogs is that they're just unique enough that they never go completely out of style. Or at least that's what I tell myself to justify the collection.

I was just going to say the same thing --- they just kind of exist in an alternate style dimension where they just do their own thing, all fluevoggy.

I agree - they are not in or out of style. They are Fluevog, end of story. Would like to see how they look on your feet.

Yes they really are in a class of their own, so if you like them then wear them. They will never be in or out of style. Agree with Rae, how do they look on your feet? If they are flattering as well as comfortable then they are winners.

Ah, yes , I think you are all right and Fluevogs are just Fluevogs and not really dated or not dated.

Thinking about this some more, I think what is bugging me about the malibrans in particular is the combo of the snub toe shape and the very low-cut front, the two of which kind of exacerbate each other. The second picture I posted is more high vamp and does not bug me nearly as much.

I've tried on the booties from this collection, which are obviously also high vamp, and they looked nice on my feet.

Diana, I know exactly what you mean about the vamp. To me, the low cut version isn't as pleasing as the higher version. But definitely as they say, these are unique soles for unique souls. You just gotta 'vog and be cool with it. There may be short spans where you don't wear them, but you'll break them out again. Same idea as Dr. Martins and Converse to me. They just are.

Dunno about dated or not, but that snubby toe looks paradoxically like a very bold fashion statement to me, at the same time as being cute! (fwiw)

I see a lot of people wearing this toe shape. And I agree that Fluevogs exits in a completely separate dimension! I think their unique look makes them always very "cool".

To repeat what others have said, Fluevogs tend to be sufficiently odd and interesting that they don't go in and out of style, exactly. Although I've noticed that the company often does give a nod to certain trends -- for example, they'll make shoes in the "hot colours" of the season.

I've got those Malibrans (in dark red) and I really like them. And for some reason, men seem to like them. I've had a number of comments from men about those shoes -- more than from women, and it's usually a woman who will comment on your shoes, right? I'm always surprised when a man comments on my shoes. I don't know if that will colour your opinion of them in a positive or negative way, but there it is.

I agree with the others. Fluevog's in a category of its own. If you like them (and I can totally see you rocking them), then go for it!

Thanks, everyone. I definitely think I prefer the high vamp Operettas. May just be that I am preferring high vamp shoes in general these days, although I suspect that the Malibrans would actually be very nice looking on my feet.

Am kind of obsessing over these at the moment, but am going to stalk them for a while to see if the price goes down. Plus it's not exactly boot weather right now.

I like the green ones I posted above too but am not sure how practical they will be with the open sides and back.

Diana, I have those red Operetta Giulia booties too (what can I say, I like red shoes, lol). I've got a fondness for Fluevogs and have quite a few pairs, and I try to wear them all, but I have to say that I'm pretty sure those red booties get more wear than any other pair of shoes or boots in my closet. They go with skirts, they go with all shapes of jeans, they are super-comfy, and they are adorable. I wore them all over London sightseeing and didn't get sore feet.

If I had to choose between my Malibran shoes and the Giulia booties -- well, it would be a tough decision, but I think I'd have to go with the booties.

Ooh, thanks for the glowing recommendation, Elisabeth. Do they gap at the ankles? I love that they have the cutout front and am hoping that the ankle is snug enough that it wouldn't gap.

No, they don't gap at all! That's why they look so cute with a skirt and tights. They're fitted at the ankle, and cutout front part helps give the illusion of a lower vamp, so they don't cut me off at the ankle like some other short boots can.

The only problem with them is that those buttons could potentially fall off. It has never happened to me (and actually I have two pairs, the red ones and also dove gray ones), but my mother-in-law had a pair in black and she seemed to lose a button every few months. We live in Vancouver and Fluevog will happily replace the buttons, but still. A bit of a pain in the neck. Mind you, she wore them nearly every day for three years straight. And she's hard on her shoes. She liked them so much that when she wore out the first pair, she bought a replacement pair in the same colour! She said she hasn't had trouble with buttons coming off this new pair.
