Flowy blouse - versatile enough?

In my efforts to move away from snug knits a little more this year, I have been looking into blouses. But standard button downs are very much not my style. This feels more 'me' but do you all think it could do double duty under a jacket and belted or tucked? I know it would be fine as shown over a slim silhouette. I want to think it would be versatile enough, but I've been known to be wrong before when branching out into new unknown territory lol. Thanks!

I'm not sure about how it would look tucked in, but i think it's look great under a jacket or belted.

Gorgeous blouse Mo! I love the drape of it. It would look smashing under a jacket and belted. Tucked in could be an issue depending on what it is you're tucking it into. It's fairly long and has a fair bit of fabric so could be "bunchy" under a slim fitting bottom like a pencil skirt.

I guess my follow up question then should be if it would look dressy or professional enough simply under a jacket and not tucked . . . or belted and under a jacket. I am really trying to see items used in both casual and slightly dressier situations both!

I think it would totally look dressy/professional enough under a jacket not tucked. It's such an elegant and classy look. For pants, I would keep the silhouette fairly slim to balance the blouse, or it would look gorgeous over a pencil skirt untucked. Then for casual, pop it over some skinnies jeans and Bob's your uncle!

I think this is something that can be dressed up, if that's what you're wondering. It will look great with slim/skinny pants and so on, and it will also look good dressed up, belted, under a jacket/blazer as well. I'm not 100% certain it will work tucked into a skirt or something, but depending on the skirt, it might work.

Nice blouse, and I do think it can be casual and dressy - just that I'm not sure it can be tucked into a skirt (or pants either). But the thing is, this doesn't have to be a deal-breaker. I get the impression you're after maximum versatility - as in, the blouse can be worn casually and also dressed up a wee bit - and yes, I do think this blouse fits the bill. You might wear it with skinny (coloured?) jeans in a casual ensemble, but if you wanted to dress it up a wee bit, you could pair it with something like GAP's Really Skinny pants, or other very slim-fitting non-jean/slightly dressier pants.

This blouse will look amazing with coloured skinny jeans/pants, don't you think? And this idea can be dressed down or dressed up. I think this is a good piece to consider. It *will* be versatile, just not necessarily something you're going to tuck into a skirt or dress pants.

I think it would look great under a jacket! And belted/tucked, as long as there is not too much fabric to bunch up awkwardly. A little bunching would be fine, IMO, though.

Yes, Velvety, my question was more about dressing it up/down than the actual act of tucking hee hee. I'm not much of a tucker, to be honest. Okay, now to wait for May 1 LOLOL. Hate this Shop Your Budget nonsense sometimes!!
The good news is that my rose blouse on Modcloth is still there (and on sale!) so maybe I'll get to grab both next month. Wheee!!!

Mo I ordered this shirt and it didn't fit right on me. We have pretty similar shapes so I dunno if it'll be the same for you, but in my usual size (XS) the bust was ridiculously tight (I'm not large busted) and in the size up (S) there was a ton of extra fabric... and the bust was still a little tight. I'm mailing them all back tomorrow I didn't even bother posting for a K/R because of the fit issue, but if you'd like I can edit and post the photos for you.

However! This shirt fits perfectly: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/sp.....rt/3248684. I ordered it in black in my usual size and love it so much that I also ordered it in green, and I never duplicate. It is more expensive, though.

Mo, I can TOTALLY see you in a blouse like this. I don't think it would look good tucked, but slip it on over skinnies and you're in business. I like the one Aida posted, too.

I think dressy to casual uses are sorted by now, Mo. Just wanted to add it should be easier to tuck into a skirt than pants as there's more room for the fabric to drop down, you know? Fingers crossed the shirt works out for you, because it is beautiful! It's what I'd like instead of a standard crisp button-down myself.

Not sure what it is for me exactly, I think because I need the smaller size maybe my bust is too low or something? We're similar bust sizes, I'm a bit smaller than you even I think.

Thanks very much for the fit tips, Aida! Actually I have a hard time with most tops being too low in the armholes and I almost fit into petites. I went and bought all petite hangers for my closet actually, to fit the smaller shoulders of my knits. I did spy the Splendid blouse also. I read a review from a gal who owns both and finds them comparable . . .

I don't think the armholes of this top were too large (I have that problem too), but my guess is that my broader shoulders are contributing to the bust pulling. Since you're not IT (and neither is Kari) it might work better for you

Are these both the Pleione? The hems are different . . . I like the hem on the green.
I think you may be right about the shoulder issue. Mine slope if anything Now I wonder about small vs xs. Sigh. lol.

The black one is the second one I linked, by Splendid. The green is the Pleione you're looking at. I'm afraid I won't be much help in the sizing for the Pleione since neither size fit me

I have basically the same shirt (although by Splendid in white and pink). They wrinkle a lot; not sure about the Pleione version. But I've worn them both untucked and tucked, and I really like them untucked. It's great because I'm not a fan of button down shirts either

Mo, I also have this blouse. I have it in navy and also in white. I love it. I have attached two photos of how I have worn it recently.

I don't think I could tuck this as there is too much fabric, however you are tall and slender so you might get away with tucking. It's a great look over jeans, and I think it could work over a pencil skirt too - I am going to give it a go and see how/if it does work. I am not sure this would work with a belt due to the asymetrical hemline.

I do like how Kari wore hers layered under a vest and I could see this working well on you too Mo.

I find this to be very versatile and very comfortable I can dress it up or down and I can wear it to office when I don't have meetings.

I haven't tried it under a jacket, but I am going to right now... I hadn't considered that. May have to tuck the longer side tho.

Hey thanks! It's great to see everyone donning this in their own ways! Very helpful. I'd likely wear it loose over jeans 95% of the time, I just have this mini professional/dressy casual capsule in the back of my head that I need to keep in mind for the 2 or 3 days a year I need such attire

OH, that Splendid top is keeeeelling me! I love the brand and the shade of the green... might have to try and locate it in my size. But now there is going to be a battle royale in my brain for what to buy in March - Mo, I agree that SYB is aggravating. lol

The flowy look is so very pretty! I think you would look lovely in a lot of the examples here. I haven't figured out a way to make it work for me.

Mo, I posted the photo of the small above but I looked back on my photos and the XS seems to have photographed the same, though it is certainly smaller and has less fabric. If you're normally an XS for tops and your shoulders are narrow, the XS should be flowy enough for you since it's cut pretty breezy to begin with. I would say separate from the bust issue the small on me fits similarly to how Cathy and Deborah's fit them, with the XS just being a little slimmer.

Mo just in reference to shopping your budget I thought I would let you know I bought my tops at Target (in Australia) so I don't know if it's worth looking at their catalogue in the US? I bought them recently and they were a lot less than the Nordstroms version and by the description they are the same. Woven trim and collar and knit body and the quality if good. Just for your info....

Thanks Deborah, unfortunately our Target does not have it - or I don't know how to search it lol.
I asked the BF for a this-or-that comparison of the blouse against an open weave black sweater and the blouse was a clear winner. Bonus, he (being the Nordie's buyer in our house) informed me there should be a sale right around Mother's Day (my birthday) and so perhaps we can even get it on sale. Fingers crossed. Happy Mo day to me . . . Oh, and he mentioned the bright green, which I said is a hot color this year. He said, " see, I'm the fashion Ginger around here and I don't even know it." tee hee
