Floral jeans help please - YouLookFab Forum

So remember a few Fridays back when I wore the floral jeans and Cookie Monster sweater? http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....floral-fun

Well the sweater is gone (well not technically gone - it is now being much loved by Dusty Bottom and Gain in their kitty bed). But I still love the jeans and want to wear them. But I have NO CLUE how to style these. Footwear isn't the problem (red booties, blue suede booties, Doc Marcies....) it's the top part that has me stumped.

The jeans have several colours in them and I assume because they are reasonably "loud" that the top should be simple. The jeans also sit a wee bit lower that I normally wear and definitely need to hide a bit of muffin top as a result.

I would love to hear any and all suggestions so that I can get wearing these. I feel good in them and would hate for them to become closet orphans.

P.S. Sorry if I'm being a bit of a forum hog today!

How about grey, or olive or blush or white? Black is usually my first choice of color but in this case I think it will look too harsh with the softer colors of the jeans.

I like the boxy sweater look with it, actually. A repeat of what you're wearing there, minus the Cookie Monster texture, in colours found in the print, would be great, IMHO. Do you have a cream fisherman's sweater?

A tunic-length button-down in white or chambray could be nice too, especially if it's not too tight. In general, a bit of volume on top would be good for balance. Denim blouse, perhaps, again depending on the length or cut.

Great ideas from Sara and JR! And fun to hear that you sweater has found such a great new home.

I was also thinking:
- denim shirt (tucked or untucked) and your delicious furry vest
- love the idea of a crisp white button-down shirt and a blazer
- crisp white button-down with a denim jacket
- a flowy blouse and a blazer or one of your fantastic leather jackets (confession:I sigh with delight each time I see them make an appearance!)
- jumper (a high-low hemline would be great) with a shirt underneath
- cream or blue chunky knit turtleneck
- regular turtleneck with a blazer or leather jacket
- ...

Sara - love the idea of grey with these to give the whole outfit a bit of a monochromatic feel. Well as monochromatic as a person can get with a bunch of flowers on her legs!

JR - I too like the boxy, slightly oversized sweater look with the jeans. That sweater shape does wonders to hide any muffin top. Hadn't thought of my cream fisherman knit sweater - will give that a whirl and see how it looks.

Inge - never even thought of my furry vest...might be too hot for indoors though and wouldn't be warm enough for outdoors. I do have a crisp white button down and will try with my red blazer (Una's original suggestion on my original thread) and with my denim jacket. And you just made me think my mauve leather jacket might work with these...

Una - oh yes!!! Will try that once I get it back from Wonder Woman. She's shortening the sleeves for me. What would I put on underneath?

I think my biggest issue is making sure the top hides any "spillage" over the waistband of the jeans, if you know what I mean.

I'm also starting to think I need to get one or two more versatile sweaters - no pattern, maybe one grey and one navy or cobalt chunky knit. These could be worn with several of my bottoms.

Shannon, I wear my oversized/tunic sweaters with skinnies - to hide spillage, crotch issues, or other concerns. Forgiving and comfortable!

That's what I'm looking for - forgiving and comfortable! Need to hunt a couple down that's for sure.

What about your new black cleo top with the tie at the side? Maybe with a longer necklace or scarf for a bit of brightness up top? I also like the idea of a crisp white blouse + topper

I think you need a nice flowy bouse, picture Anna, in winter white or ivory whichever suits your complexion better. You'll likely have to layer a cami underneath so that can camouflage any muffin top concerns, plus you leave the blouse untucked. It would soften the pants but still be fun! Of course a nice chunky sweater would be fab as well.

it might be fun to "ignore" the colors in the pattern and go for a color that goes but doesn't match? Maybe purple or yellow? A big soft cream tunic blouse or sweater would be a simple, easy pick as well.

Emily - I thought of that top too with maybe my Doc Marcies for footwear to bookend?

Jenava - I was wondering about not matching any of the colours - maybe that's too obvious? I like the idea of dark purple.

Ack! Fab visual reference Una - this is incredibly helpful. And that's exactly the type of look/outfit I want with mine. Now to find the right sweater - something slightly "flowy" like yours. Thanks!

I echo the chunky grey sweater, covers some sins lol, loose with the fitted pants and I think it would be great with your groovy boots and hair

I vote yes to bookending that black top with your marcies - would be a great "hard and soft" sort of look Can't wait to see what you come up with!

I'm commenting before I read the other posts...I like the idea of these jeans with a sleek, fitted, black turtleneck or v-neck sweater....something classic and simple. The jeans are loud enough that I agree the top should be simple.

SIF: I like the idea of a sleek fitted item but that is sooooo not gonna happen with these! I'm afraid there is some muffin top that needs to be disguised and a fitted top won't do that.

I think I might be done with these pants

Love that idea of a flowy oversize sweater or blouse...it would be terrific with these, or even a tunic. These are fun jeans.

A gentle stripe would be amazing....either light grey on off-white or white....or who knows?

Was the leather blazer suggested? Blazers cover MT too!
