While flip flops and/or thong sandals are no longer suitable for my sad feet, I think they can look very nice with a floaty dress or slip dress.

TKees is a brand that makes various styles of these sandals - very pretty for pretty feet.

I wear flip flops as indoor shoes/slippers, and occasionally out of doors if I’m just hanging out on a hot day. I do not wear them ‘off the property’.

They can be an interesting fashion ‘lewk’, but I would categorize them the same way I do stiletto heels - good for a photo opportunity, but not the best choice for RL.

JANET I love those Sanuks! As for the other two I don't think leather thongs are flipflops. They are thongs.

MSMARY Wow what a collection. Thanks for sharing. I love that you connect with fellow travellers over your flipflops :).

SUZ you are on to something that has never occurred to me. The deep V can be very flattering.

JENNI And SAL I replied to ANGIE that I think flipflops are a staple in the Southern Hemisphere! I have heard the name Jandals before but had forgotten it. I didn't know it is from Japanese sandals. In Bulgarian they are called Japankee. Well I had never made the Japanese connection and I doubt any other Bulgarians have either! So fun to learn something new.

BIJOU those are very pretty beach Birks and very you.

JAIME after looking at the pic SUZ posted they sure look like mostly for signalling purposes. To each their own...

CAROL I don't recall where I saw the original post. There is a follow up post this morning in Marie Claire with the same pic stating Jenn is not following a trend but has always worn flipflops since the 90s. Of course she pulls it off. She always looks minimally fab. Not sure everyone can make them look so effortlessly cool though. I think on me they look like 'just Flip-flops' IYKWIM.

CARLA yes very hard on the feet IRL for some of us.

JENNInz of course you would have gold ones! Even flip flops are sassy for the shoemakers Elf :).

SLOPER yes pretty feet is a requirement :).
SAL spot on about Jenn Aniston and her signature effortlessly cool minimalist style makes them work for her.

I wear flipflops (the basic rubber, beachy ones) only at home and at the beach. The combination of pretty dress and flipflops is funny to me but I would not wear it. Flipflops are too casual. That said on my recent vacation I have been in flipflops all the time due to the heat. Must find a dressier flipflop for these emergencies!

I wear rubber flip-flops at the beach. For day-to-day wear, I much prefer my Birkenstock Gizehs - they are far more supportive.
I own a pair of super flat leather thongs like Jennifer's from a few years back. They still look brand new because I never wear them:) I feel like it takes a lot of energy to keep them on my feet and walk in them, so I never actually reach for them

I wear rubber flipflops like Havaianas mostly around the yard or at the beach. I might keep a pair in my car as a post-hiking shoe. I have a pair of red jelly flipflops that are are a trend offshoot from the ridiculously expensive Row red soled ones, and I find they read as acceptable for out in public. And the rest, I would consider thong sandals. I saw a kitten heeled, leopard print pair the other day that were tempting.

I grew up at the NJ shore, so flip flops are beach essentials for me. But by that I mean the inexpensive, Five Below variety. Other than that, I don’t get a lot of wear out of flip flops, or sandals in general unless it’s really hot out. I don’t like cold or wet feet, so my toes are usually covered.

I’ve never not worn flip flops! I wear them for boating and the pool and occasionally casually as well. I primarily wear Olukai for the comfort and I have several pairs, including fleece flip flops for at home! They provide way more support than the flat rubber ones though I still have 1 pair of Havianas.

I love the look of a nice leather thong sandal with a summer dress, nice shorts or wider leg jeans.

The beach and water have always been happy places for me and flip flops are just a part of that.

I own one pair of flip flops that I usually wear for the beach (see finds). This is my second pair of Reef Fannings. When my first pair wore out I immediately replaced them. I really like the cushion and arch in these and the thong does not rub the skin on my toes.

I have a very casual style and sport graphic tees and shorts a lot in the summer months. It would make sense that I would wear flip flops with these outfits, but if I want to expose my toes, I seem to prefer slip on sandals instead.

Lise--thanks for looking. I did see some photos of her in simple black thongs with a simple black slip dress. Context is everything--it was Tribeca, NYC, which is very dirty. You probably wouldn't do a whole day in those in that city, but she was coming out of a limo for an event there.

Often you see these shoes in laid-back, yet stylish environments, like strolling the farmers' market in Hollywood, or brunch with friends. They are a staple for many women, including myself. I would absolutely wear them with a maxi dress, because it is a good look.

The ones you would wear about town are usually silver, gold or black, though there are other colors. Flat and thin. You can wear them to the beach, too, but I would rather have a surf brand at the beach, like Roxy, which is a better look, and better in sand.

BELLA nice to see you. I agree that Birks are the better option for various reasons particularly more support.

UMLILLA the kitten heel leopard pair sound fabulous!

LISA, SUSIE, SISI, KARIE fully agree that anything to do with water and the rubber ones are an essential.

Copenhagen Fashion Week street style pics show lots of flipflops (that look like the beachy type) and I am still not convinced they elevate an outfit. Each to their own. Thanks all for sharing. ☺️

Lise - I'd argue that flip flops aren't ever going to elevate anything . I think maybe they modernize a look right now, but only a specific style of flip flop does this. Not all of them are equal in this regard.

LJP Yes I think you are 100% correct.
