.......... false eyelashes, that is!
I'm moving in to my new (to me) home in my new city of Indianapolis. Yes, I've heard the name Naptown before, and, really, I could use a nap amidst all these boxes!
As I've been out and about I've seen a gear-driven city. Triathletes are everywhere and, while my cyclist husband is lusting for hills to climb and finding none, there are cycling groups all over wearing lots of team colored spandex! This is an active town. Maybe naps are necessary with all the running and cycling in humid summer temps!
Fashion wise, everything (alas) is very casual, but pretty upscale. Everyone is out an about in flip flops and little gear miniskirts. Lots of Lululemon, even more Athleta (which I like better), and Under-Armour as, well, outer wear.
I was pleasantly surprised to move from a far-north suburb of Chicago to a closer in suburb in Indy and actually see more diversity in the community. My suburb, which national guides report as overwhelming white, is far more diverse than advertised. Since my own family is interracial, I'm very happy with this. Fashion wise, this alters the landscape, too! I have a fabulous neighbor across the street wearing all sorts of rich and sumptuous scarves as hijab, and my neighborhood Walmarts all have brow threading and lash salons. Really. In WalMart! The women behind the counter at my local McD's (Yes, I like the tea and the yogurt parfaits) are often wearing a full set of lashes and lots of jewelry with their uniforms. Gotta admire their effort to make their work look a bit more glam!
Me? I'm keeping it simple as I get settled. My favorite uniform is a woven sleeveless top with drape, semi-tucked into belted crops or BFs.
On the plus side, I'm actually closer to Nordies than ever -- just 6 miles. I think I might actually do the anniversary sale this year!
