I live in New Jersey, right across the Delaware River from Philadelphia.
But I might as well live in Alaska, too! My husband says when I hear
mention of cold my eyes roll back in my head. When we were dating,
eons ago, he customarily wore shorts while I wore a down parka. He said
the parka didn't come off until the thermometer showed 70 degrees.
I like really hot weather but not the heavy humidity we have here.
When I was a girl we spent a summer back East in New York City.
I grew up in the semi-desert of California. I brought stockings with me
and aimed to wear them. My relatives looked at me like I was crazy.
I remember meeting a friend for shopping and while I was waiting, I noticed
with alarm that I was completely drenched in a sheet of moisture inside my
clothes. I was just standing there. I've never gotten used to this. I keep
buying clothes for California weather and there's only a brief window when
they can be worn without suffering. But I'm in denial while I'm looking at them.
