Flaws of my Prom dress

Hi everyone, I found this dress that I'm dying to wear to prom but there's one major flaw with it.

I absolutely love everything about this dress except the very back of it.....
On the top of the back of the dress there is that stretchy scrunchy fabric and I hate that. It makes the dress look very informal in my opinion.
So my question is, is there anything I can do to the back of the dress to cover that block of stretchy scrunchy part? Can I sew anything on top of that?
I don't want to wear anything on top of this dress so I'm in the search for all possible solutions!

I was thinking maybe I could go out to hobby lobby and by a piece of colored tulle that matches the dress and sew it on top of that scrunchy part of the dress on the back?
Is that even possible?

It's a really pretty dress! You could tie a sheer shawl around your back like so:

or do a bit of sewing. I don't think the scrunchy part is so bad.

Cute dress. Anything you sew onto the back would have to be as stretchy so I don't think tulle would work.
If I were stuck on having that dress I would remove the back panel and add a new one in regular fabric with a zipper.
Rachy's solution would work or a cute shrug.

I agree with you that the smocking in the back is a bit casual looking for prom. I would be careful about sewing something on top to cover it for a couple of reasons:

You'll want to keep the fit quite snug in order for the dress to stay in place
the stretch in the back will be necessary for you to get in and out of the dress.

Perhaps a seamstress could replace the panel of smocking with something solid and add an invisible zipper in the side to get in and out? I'm not sure how involved an alteration that would be, though. You might want to take the photo in and ask before buying if you don't have the dress already.
