Flat boots under jeans?

Are there any flat boots (or a heel less than 2 inches) that look good under wide or bootcut pants? Most of them look big and goofy to me. If not, what other kinds of shoes work under jeans in winter? I have been interested in getting a pair of flat oxfords, but most of them seem either masculine or grannyish to me.

Have you looked at ankle boots? They might seem sleeker and not as big -- but still give you winter coverage. Just some ideas (ignore prices) --

I'll await the verdict on the Me-Too's; I also have similar styles of shoes that work with thick socks, and I too wonder if this is acceptable or not.

Some of the ankle boots that AJ posted look very nice... especially the ones that don't come up that high. I like booties that aren't too high because then they rub annoyingly. (Hmm, I seem to be sensing this theme: I guess I have sensitive ankles!)

Meanwhile, you can also wear knee-high boots under your bootcuts. I think that's even why the call them bootcuts - they are cut wide enough to put boots *under* rather than over. This gives you an extra layer of warmth on your entire lower leg, not just up to your ankles. Yeah, I know... you aren't showing off the whole boot... but it's practical and warm and it extends the wear you can get out of your knee-high boots. This works best of course with styles that are sleek - like a pull on style.

Maya, I'm having the same problem. I've been looking for a relatively flat boot (ankle or mid) that isn't completely boring and won't set me back two weeks worth of groceries I haven't been able to find many options or I would pass them on to you. I am still looking so if I come across anything I will definitely keep you in mind.

It's probably going to depend on your budget. Nicole just got the best pair of flat ankle boots and I've got clients in those particular LC’s too, but they cost a pretty penny.

Maya, those loafers, sweet as they are, aren’t what I’d call a NY Winter shoe. Have I understood correctly? Ankle boots or booties are your answer IMO. Also, if I recall correctly, you have ankle boots that you bought last season because you were tired of your knee-high boots in skinnies?

Well it sounds like all signs point to getting a non-boot. I'm just not sure what my options are. Like I said, I'm keen on some oxfords, but I can't seem to find a pair that look feminine and young rather than conservative and masculine. I wish they would come in colors other than black and brown.

I do have ankle boots Angie, but they don't give me PPL with most of my jeans. That's why I wanted a flat boot, but I guess I just don't like the look of flat boots under jeans. I tried to keep an open mind and I hoped to find something less conservative than the usual, but I don't think that's going to happen.

Personally, I wear my flat knee-high boots under bootcut jeans ( in addition to over skinnies). You can not see their silhouette under jeans - as Shiny mentioned, that's why they are probably called bootcut. But I am also hoping to get an ankle pair specifically for that purpose, with a tiny wedge. I have this on my mind:

But till then, I see nothing wrong in continuing wearing the tall ones underneath. Id anything, they keep me warm.

I have never worn my flat knee high boots under jeans in the first place. First of all they're not really "flat"--they have a slight heel that prevents PPL.

The other flat boots I have come with little ties on the sides that bulge out under jeans.

Ankle boots or booties would have been preferable only because it would save me the trouble of finding boots that fit in the calf.

I'm surprised to hear you say you think that shoes look too big under bootcut pants--I have the complete opposite impression. I always feel that most shoes look too small under wider leg pants, like the person has no feet--or little teeny tiny baby feet. Isn't it funny how differently people perceive things?

I feel like if my feet are sticking out a lot under a wide leg opening, it just makes them look big and clumsy. I prefer the look of small feet, and I just prefer the look of sleek and dainty shoes in general. Big and clunky shoes just make me feel frumpy.

I have the same boots as Nicole. I finally got them out and love them. I agree with Nicole about the feet looking smaller with bootcuts. I was specifically looking for flat (for PPL purpose) ankle (because I have the same calf fit problem) boots, and I didn't find that many options. Most seem to have a bit of a heel, enough to ruin PPL and to impact the comfort.
I would go for the JC boots. I was also unsure about the patent originally, but now I like it a lot. It makes even a casual outfit a little more sophisticated.

I wear a lot of bootcut and wide-legged pants, and in winter I wear under them:
-ankle boots
-regular boots (I have a couple of mid-heeled Franco Sartos from last year which work great with pants)
-kitten-heeled shoes
-heeled Mary Janes

I try to get my winter pants a little longer because flats are less of an option during this season, but if I have no choice, I'll put the flats in a tote bag and wear them once I get into the office. But my winter flats are usually not ones that show a lot of skin on the top of my foot, so I will also usually wear sheer knee-highs with them. But I don't like that look, so I try to get the longest pants possible instead for winter.
