flares, bootcut, BF, and footwear

OK, I finally get it, flares are wider at the bottom than boot cuts, and sort of flare out further down to the bottom. I only have 1 decent pair of boot cuts, so I will just put them away for a while..won't wear jeans as much anyhow as the weather warms up, and they are not all that expensive. So what do you all do with your expensive jeans when they are no longer on trend? Replacing the bootcuts with flares may not work as I do not want my jeans to drag on the ground,,get frayed and dirty. if that is the way to wear flares, I will pass. And I almost never wear heels with my jeans so another reason not to wear them. I am a bit torn though, as I like the look of flares with more bare foot looking sandals, and I do wear that kind of sandal.

Mostly I am seeing BF's, both more skinny BF's (which I wear) and the looser ones. They seem to be the most versitle jeans,,and look great with booties, flats, all kinds of sandals, even higher wedgies, and heels.

My solution is simple but won't help at all: I don't buy any expensive jeans.

But, ya know, I also don't worry that much about the main jean silhouettes going completely out of style that quickly. When skinnies became the rage, we still saw plennnnty of bootcuts that women didn't want to give up because they looked--good! And I think it's going to take something pretty major to put them completely off the streets. (If I could guess what that would be, I'd be a fashion billionaire?)

Bootcuts are a classic style, and don't need to be updated as often as trendier styles. If they were purchased within the last 5 years or so, I'd say just hang onto them until you feel like wearing them again; when that time comes, you can pull them out and assess whether or not they still look current. Bootcuts can be worn with flats, particularly pointy toe varieties, but will generally make you look leaner and longer with a heel even if it's just a little 1.5" heel.

Flares pretty much need a heel to look right, because the wider leg break just doesn't work over flats. They go in and out of mainstream style, but remain a staple if you have a 70s/boho streak to your style. They do look great with those bare/strappy sandal heels, I love wearing mine that way! But they do need to be sweeping the ground to look their best, so if you don't like ground skimming hems then perhaps this is not the silhouette for you

If you love your BFs, hang on to them! No need to wear a flare if you don't like the silhouette for your lifestyle. Or you could also try to thrift a pair or buy on consignment. That way you could experiment for less. Most people are still wearing skinnies so I think there are some great flares available on ebay and in thrift stores at the moment.
