Fixing bleeding colors

I recently wore my new dark wash denim jacket on a lime green cotton/wool blend sweater. Looked great - except the dark blue bled off the denim onto the sweater

Looking for suggestions on how to remove the color stain off the sweater and what can I do to fix the color on the denim jacket?

I've had this same problem with dark wash denim leaving blue marks on the toe box of my shoes. I would be interested to know how to prevent this. It has happened even after I've washed the denim. Is it just a quality issue?

Try nail polish remover on the shoes, this worjs quite well.

I'm afraid that I have no solution for the sweater. Try soaking it in “Shout” and “Oxyclean”. And try washing your denim jacket with vinegar in the washing machine.

This is absolutely a quality issue.

Did you wash the jeans first? I always wash my dark jeans at least once without anything else in the laundry. I know that doesn't help you now, but at least in the future it should help.

There are specific laundry products out there that are made to remove dyes from one fabric which have bled onto another product. I have had had varous degrees of sucess with such products. Here is one that I found online:

Guess I'm getting rid of those jeans!

mayapple: yeah, I will usually wash my denim first, although, I hadn't ever used vinegar before, I will think about that in the future. Does it leave your clothes smelling all....vinegar-y?

Thanks all. I'll try washing my denims and see if that works. I'm a little afraid of trying vinegar...the smell..

Someone suggested I try hand washing the stain off with regular detergent in cold water and soak the denims in hot water to fix the problem. I might give that a try.

You wont smell the vinegar once the clothing is dry. I always use a cup of white vinegar to my towels--it removes that sour smell w/out using bleach. You can't smell it once they are dry.

I believe that the dye in indigo jeans can be set with a cup of vinegar and cold water. I recently tried this after noticing the denim color had rubbed onto my bag leaving an unsightly color across the taupe leather. I have had noticed no real issues after I rewashed them with vinegar, but have been extra careful when wearing them with light colors.

Don't put your sweater in the drier after you wash it, if you do the heat will set-in any remaining unwanted rubbed-in dye and your sweater will be permanently shot.
