Good for you for being consistent in the gym and progressing! I swam over the winter, in a 25 m pool. Now the 50 m one is open again and I’m back the gym, supposedly doing upper body twice a week, two leg days, a yoga class, and a swim, but the actual log is much more spotty than that. A full-body weights routine did not help, just meant I did less, fewer times a week.
I worked out through much of the pandemic, setting up a “gym” with water bottles at home, then working out with a PT/trainer for months after I broke my foot (the injury didn’t need so much PT, but he had weights & other equipment). Then after a leg injury last summer, any kind of exercise hurt for months, not just lifting but even kicking when I swam. I gave up and now my legs are unrecognizable. The uninjured one is nearly as weak as the one that was hurt, because I cut out everything legs. They were always just strong, whether playing soccer or pushing off pool walls or whatever, starting when I was quite young, and now that’s gone. It’s a very strange feeling. I’ve never understood people who don’t want to lift weights because it’s hard/they can’t do heavy stuff. Now I get it. For unilateral quad extensions, I started with just a couple plates. It was no fun! I’m making progress, slowly—thank goodness for the training log, because when I feel bad about what I’m lifting, seeing the progress in my chart cheers me up.
I’ve recently come across the equipment in this picture, am curious who else has seen/used it, and what you thought. It is http://www.five-Konzept.de
ETA, I see “coming back”, whether from illness, weight gain, or injury, is a common theme in this thread—such inspiring posts before mine! Carla, thanks for starting the thread.
ETAA: on food/diet: I usually drop weight in the summer. This year I’m pushing it. I’ve dropped my calories from my usual 1600-1700/day to 1200, including a minimum 100 g of protein. This is entirely for vanity’s sake.
