Fit predictor

So Neiman Marcus has this little gizmo that asks you your size in certain designers, then predicts what size you'll need in a item. http://www.neimanmarcus.com/p/.....at=product Look at the Your Best Fit button on the lace top. I don't think it works very well, I'm a medium in Vince and a large in Robert Rodriguez and it said I'd need a medium in the DVF top. I know I'm a large or 12 in DVF because she runs pretty small.

good to know, anna. i recently ordered an eel print leather front skirt from needless markup in three sizes and still got it wrong.

i will use this to see if the fit predicted with malandrino mirrors my experience with her skirt.

Unfortunately sizes and shades (makeup foundation) gizmo's don't work on me, at all. I've tried one that told me I was a size 8 when I'm usually a 6 and I fit perfectly in a size 4 at that retailer. Which was shocking to me and the sales woman helping me. I just stick to good sense when shopping, online or in store!

I think I saw something like this on Nordie's website recently too, and Allsaints has something similar for some of their items.

These things never work for me though, because my waist and hips are not where the algorithms think they are.

Nordstrom has this too for some of their clothing items. I think it is helpful as a rough guideline only.

I wish we could actually figure out the fit that easily. Seriously I'm still deciding what size shoe to buy now that I know the color. Do I order both? Do I order the size I normally order or do order a half size up?

There was an e-tailer called MyShape. Their entire business was based on their "fit predictor" software. You entered A TON of info and measurements -- not just weight, height, B/W/H and inseam. But also rise. And still, the stuff I ordered didn't always fit. They went out of business.

I think the best fit predictors are customer reviews. I think a lot can happen between a brand's standard measurements and how the garment is actually sewn. There are some higher-end brands where the fit is quite consistent however. They probably have the same makers and tighter QC.
