I am coming to the end of my first week in a new job in an office environment. This is the first time that I have ever worked in an office environment.
The official dresscode is not specified. The policy states appropriate office attire, and says conservative and professional. It mentions modesty and grooming. It bans athletic wear, jeans, and tank tops, leggings worn as pants, facial piercings and visible tattoos.
BUT we have casual Fridays when we can wear jeans, and Spirit days when you can wear athletic wear. The two specific items my boss mentioned as no-no's were hoodies and mule shoes.
Attire around the office varies a lot by position and department. Many people dress more casually than Business Casual. My boss is interesting because she wears very conservative styles in very loud colors and patterns.
For instance, a black and white striped sheath dress with neon pink pom-pom trim and a neon pink cardigan worn with black pumps or black slacks, black pumps, and a wrap top with a very loud and bright floral pattern.
The other people in similar positions to me are all men. A few of whom were retired and called back to help out part time for a limited amount of time. They wear dress slacks and dress shirts. The other members in my department wear casual button down shirts and casual pants.
I have on my new Miz Mooz sandal booties with the open toe today. It seems fine- I have seen other women in sandals. But I don't want to buy more open toed shoes until my boss sees them.
