First two wedding dress options have arrived! (Sue and Tadashi)

And both fit me almost perfectly (sizewise anyway). Sorry for the poor lighting - hopefully you can see the details alright. Both are ivory - I tried to color correct a bit but was not super successful. Please note that I am not wearing a bra with either of these - not sure I even CAN with the Sue Wong because of the sheer back. I am also wearing nothing in the way of shapewear (although honestly I would prefer not to for the actual wedding too). I am however wearing some heels around the right height.
What do you think? I will add my own opinions a little later on. (ETA: My thoughts down at the bottom.)

1-5: Sue Wong sheath dress. Beaded and sequined, very heavy. The upper back part is sheer.

6-10: Tadashi Shoji draped surplice dress. The top part is sequined and beaded and the overlay is silk chiffon over a poly underlayer; the slit in front opens to just above knee level.

Wow, look at you! I can see it coming together...

The Sue I think looks a bit better because it has a cleaner look that really shows your shape. It may be the lighting, though, but I sort of feel that both are too long in the torso and that might be throwing off the designs. The overlay on the Tadashi especially doesn't seem to be laying correctly. I think I also prefer the low V-neck of the Sue.

the Sue is the better of these two, I especially like the top of it on you, but neither of these dresses are the one. They both show too many bulges and bumps in the lower torso area--you could probably get around this by wearing shapewear, or you could be more comfortable and choose a dress that accommodates your lovely shape better

I also prefer the Sue. The second one just seems like it has so much draping, etc, that it's overwhelming you. On the other hand, the slightly deconstructed draped look is very in keeping with your style and it would be nice to find a different dress that shared those elements.

Another vote for the Sue dress. To get rid of the VPL all you need is a very light pair of bike shorts. Basically the kind that are like support pantyhose, but they end at the thigh.

Sue Wong! Just look at your beautiful figure in it. And the neckline - perfect! The dress is simple, elegant, classy, with beautiful detailing and I just love that slit at he back. While I do love the idea of flowy, silky wedding dresses (think Carolyn Bessette), my personal preference are heavier fabrics that hold the shape well.

Plus I totally understand not wanting to wear any shapewerar on the day, I was the same I actually bought some but because my dress was made of heavy satin I wore the simplest possible undergarments that i felt comfortable in in my everyday life. That is another benefit of heavy fabric.

However, I do need to point out that I'm not the happiest with the placement of the embroidered (?) flower at the front part of the skirt. Sorry to bring it up, but as I once returned a patterned summer dress for the similar reason - and I only spotted it after checking the photos of me in the dress, my eyes became poisoned for that sort of 'issues' with patterns.

Goodness you look so beautiful on both of these. I prefer the fist one for all the reasons already mentioned. The fit seems much better too. I like the idea of the second dress but its just not quite working for me.

Outlier here, I like the Tadashi. I think the first one is beautiful but I prefer the fit on the second. I love the tiny waist effect. It also looks more Diana to me.

Love them both esp the view in the last pictie- and cannot make a choice if is not a must, yet. May we see other options, too?

I love the open neckline of the first dress which shows your face, but the waist detail on the second dress is just gorgeous and different.

Both dresses are great but how do YOU feel in them? You need to feel fabulous without second guessing.

I think once the wrinkles are steamed from the second dress it may be perceived better and has great potential. The first dress looks beautiful.

The first one fits you very well and looks great!

I love the color of the second one though, and the details are very nice. I agree with the above poster, maybe if it were steamed to remove the wrinkles, it might be even better!

Yay! This is fun. Of the two I prefer the Sue. I think the heavier fabric is more flattering and less prone to wrinkles.

My only thought was -- maybe if you order a size up from your usual size, and then have a seamstress taper it to fit your figure exactly, you might get a more precise fit?

Can't wait to see more options!

OK, now that some people have commented, I will add my own thoughts.

Neither of these is The One. I am almost certainly returning both.

The Sue Wong is beautifully made and fits quite well, except, as Rae noticed, the waist is slightly too long. I'm not sure whether or not this is alterable, as the shoulders can't be taken up much and there is no waist seam; it could be narrowed in the waist though. However, I feel like it makes me look incredibly short waisted and big-bottomed, especially in the rear view (I think it's the combo of sheer top and solid bottom that emphasizes my pearishness). It's a little too columnar for me, I think, and I would prefer an a-line or trumpet skirt. I would definitely consider another Sue Wong dress if I found one I liked though, as they seem to fit me well and are really beautifully made.

And then there is the Tadashi... oh Tadashi. I love the style, but unfortunately I think this particular dress is a design fail when it comes to execution. The polyester lining and the silk overlay do NOT play well with each other. They are massively staticky and as a result things don't drape and flow the way they should. What looks like wrinkles in the photos is actually the chiffon part sticking to the underskirt. Someone had mentioned this issue in a Nordie's review of a different Tadashi dress, so I think this may be a common problem with his chiffon dresses. =( This is not fixable as both fabrics are an integral part of the dress.

Diana, I'm late to the thread but just wanted to say that you look beautiful and it's so exciting...but I'm glad you are ruling these two out as neither feels like "the one."

I love this process, though!!

Diana - I suspect you're going to look beautiful in every dress you try! But agree that neither of these is perfect enough for our beautiful bride. I love the waist detail of the Tadashi but the neckline is too high and it doesn't lay right. The Sue is a stunning dress but the torso is too long for you.

I thought the Tadashi was just wrinkled. If the construction is the problem, then I vote keep looking as well. I like Marianna's idea on the size up.

Not looking at comments yet. First off, you look fantastic. I'm not sold on either dress, however. The Sue fits better but it seems too much of a column, although it shows you off perfectly. Also that is a looong slit in the back, I'm sure so you can walk!

The second dress seems to fit a little off, and I would like to see a little lower neckline (shocking for me!) to open up and frame your lovely face.

Wish we could combine the two somehow and get the best of both!

This is so fun and exciting. I agree that neither of these is The One but the Sue one is on the right track.

Are you going to go to a bridal store and try on dresses there? If you can do it I'd recommend it--they will pin the dresses for you and will be able to help you get a clear idea of what alterations are and aren't possible... and theoretically the dresses won't be wrinkled or in need of steaming like mail-ordered ones probably will be.

Ya. I agree. A pass on both. I think the devil has been in the details. The overlay on the Tadashi is too random. The Sue Wong shows off your stunning hour glass shape - and wow! that is a wow! - but in combo with the placement of the circular part of the pattern, I feel the dress goes too far.

To overshare: I feel like that dress is whispering "Venus of Willendorf" in my ear and has plans to marry you off to the God of the Volcano.

All that said, I really like the V-neck on you.

I don't love either of these. I thought you would go for something more romantic (less sexy), but maybe I was wrong, since I don't really know you lol I wish I could show you my mother's wedding dress... my grandma, who was a seamstress, made it for her out of a dress my mom saw at a store (very expensive). It was a very simple, beautiful dress inspired in the victorian style... Kate Middleton's dress reminds me of hers, though they are very different. Ah, would love to see you in a Katie Waitie wedding dress!

Marianna, ordinarily I would have ordered a size up because these are sheath styles, but both of these were not available in a size 10. I was honestly surprised that both zipped up easily. I agree that if I were going for this style, I'd prefer to buy a larger size and get it tailored to fit. The bigger problem is that I think a petite would fit better, and most gowns don't come in petites.

Una, yeah I don't think I can do columnar very well. It's like just too much on the bottom. I think I'd like the Sue a lot more if it was knee length (although not as a wedding dress). But for the rehearsal dinner/chinese banquet reception maybe????

Irene, I totally agree about the romantic vs. sexy thing. I think one reason I'm not comfortable in the Sue Wong is that it's too bombshell for my personal comfort level. These are the only two sheath styles though! There are romantic options coming soon... in fact, one arrived today so I'll have photos later tonight.

I also don't want a traditional wedding dress though (you know, big tafetta skirt, long train, strapless)... and my fiance for some reason thinks the Kate Middleton-esque long sleeves look frumpy. Also, the wedding will be outdoors in May, so that type of traditional wedding gown might look a bit out of place anyway!

Yay! Wedding dress shopping! I have to admit that I was with Zap that I loved the Tadashi style for you. But since you don't feel like either is perfect, back they go. Keep 'em coming!

The Sue Wong dress is really pretty on you, but I think you're right to hold out for the dress that you just know is The One. You're on the right track, narrowing it down to exactly what you're looking for.

Can't wait to see the next candidates!

And btw, even though these aren't the One, your figure looks fabulous in both of them!
