Over the past few weeks since I started with this wonderful community I have worked on a fall clothing capsule, begun the process of sorting through my clothes, and am trying to discover what styles look best on me, fit my lifestyle best, and make me feel happy. I want to stop over-purchasing and really start to hone in on purchasing fewer better quality items, that I really enjoy wearing.
.
My closet clean- out was a big success. I eliminated around 1/3 of the clothing items. All of which I did not wear. Many of them were reclaimed by my daughter, who made her best attempt to get me to keep them. I stayed true to my cause in most cases, and did not take things back. I noted that most of the items eliminated were of bright vivid colors like orange, yellow, or red, or they were made of scratchy wool or some other material that was not soft and light feeling on my skin. (I like Merino and cashmere), or they were of some style that I did not think was flattering. Shoes were the only item I eliminated that truly showed any wear and tear. I eliminated 12 pairs, and they were all well worn.
I noticed some patterns within my closet:
1. I seem to love long sleeve solid color cashmere crew sweaters.
2. I also seem to love ivory blouses and tops of all sorts. They live in abundance in my closet.
3. I like straight leg jeans.
4. I like solid colors, and soft warm colors, but not too much grey, navy and definitely not black (except in shoes)
Now that Angie has helped clarify my body shape, I feel like I will be better able to pick appropriate styles that suit my frame. I saw myself as primarily pear shaped, and Angie says that I appear straight/boyish figured. I hope that shift in thinking will help me understand why so many of the items I have picked in the past did not feel "right". I am not sure how much difference there is between what a pear can wear and someone with a straight figure, because I haven't done my homework yet, but I will.
I plan to try wearing the items that are in my closet to see if I can eliminate any more. I have so many summer Ivory blouses that I am going to do a run of wearing one every day until I have worn them all. I have no idea which I like and which I don't? I will photograph them and then decide. Perhaps I will need some help?
I am also going to look into going through a process, maybe like the one in the new workbook by ANUSCHKA REES of the Into Mind Blog. “personal style & the perfect wardrobe // a workbook” . Has anyone tried it?
