First shopping trip post-baby!

First real post-pregnancy shopping trip for work clothes at Reitmans (I'm a pianist, so for recitals and other gigs, teaching, etc). Nigel's 7 months old, and I'm down about 28 lbs. Another 30 to go. But for now, thanks to a daily dose of Stacy & Clinton during mat leave this year, I had no issue shopping in the plus size section. Instead of dressing in too-tight clothing, or waiting until I have lost a bunch of weight, I went and got quite a few fun, properly-fitting pieces. I had a recital last night and felt fantastic in my new dress pants, cami and jacket.

I LOVE the white blazer. I'm waiting for it to go on sale, which it will soon. I have always shied away from white but I just want to try something new with hits of colour. Thoughts?

Good for you for finding clothes that you feel good in! Post-partum is a tough time with your body changing constantly. My LO is 6 months old so I can understand the situation you're in. IK is correct that they just keep getting more fun.

I refer to the first 6 months as boot camp. Congrats on your milestone! I love the white jacket and think it will look fresh with lots of things. I purchase whatever size I need to make me look (and feel) good.

This is my 2nd son, the other guy is almost 6. Since he was born back in 2008, I haven't been back at my pre-pregnancy weight, so I have all these size 11 clothes waiting for me. I'm finding it's not good for my mind to keep refusing to buy a larger size in good quality clothing. I've been buying cheap things that don't matter b/c I'll be losing weight. So this felt VERY good. I've been watching a lot of WNTW. So many mothers who go through this with body shape and sizes.

Just to note that after 6+ years you may find those clothes are not as great as you remember. I actually found it totally freeing to give up on getting back to a specific size and just going ahead with great purchases at my current size. Tossing the old clothes became obvious and easy at some point. I kept a couple of things for sentimental value.

It goes SO against how I think about EVERYTHING that it is OKAY for it to feel freeing due to GIVING UP.

But: as soon as I read your post, it felt 'right'. Great purchases at one's current size.

Instead of thinking of it as a defeat, I need to think of it as "going ahead". I'm going to go through my clothing with this in mind. Will report back.

Once again, so glad I posted. I've been loathe to do so because of The Weight.

Yeah... Giving up was a poor choice of words; it didn't feel like a defeat. Definitely a step forward. And I don't regret "giving up" obsessing about what I eat or the numbers on the scale after doing so from age 11 to 31. That part feels amazing, like a .... huge weight lifted! Lol

To add that I still feel it is possible that greater fitness (and a smaller size) might become priorities for me again, some day. My dad lost a lot of weight around age 60 and became very fit doing activities he enjoys, and he has maintained this for 10 years. I reserve the right to have the potential! But I am happy with who I am RIGHT NOW and shop accordingly

You look fantastic in the bright coloured tops with the white blazer and black pants! And good for you for getting on with life. Sometimes the weight comes off easily and sometimes it doesn't, but that doesn't mean we can put our lives on hold until that perfect day (which never comes, by the way). It is important to look and feel good NOW as well as in the future.
