First Nordie's Shopping Trip: Need Recommendations

Okay ladies, after dilegently shopping my closet for 2 months (save the one trip to the thrift store) I have identified several things that I need (and a few that I want) and am ready to shop.

Thanks to an unexpected bonus from work and a generous gift from the hubby, I have more than my normal amount to spend, so I am looking to invest in some higher end pieces (most of my current wardrobe came from Target, JCP, or the thrift store). Thus I am heading to Nordstrom's for my very first time!!!

With that said, I would love to have suggestions on things to try on that fit in these categories:

1. Pencil Skirt
2. Slim leg trousers
3. Cardigans
4. Knit tops for smart casual outfits
5. Dress Shoes that are work appropriate
6. Boots

I am sooo out of my element at Nordie's so I hope your suggestions will help me to feel a bit more grounded and narrow my focus. Thanks in advance for your help!

Pencil skirt - the Halogen seamed skirt is a classic and comes in all the basic colors, as well as some really fun shades! Nordstrom Rack has it online right now.

They have a free personal shopping service that would be perfect for you! If you can call ahead that would be great...they'll choose and pull items for you in your size. If not, when you get there you can ask a sales associate for help. They work on commission and are always super helpful!

I have done the personal shopping service at Nordstrom and I strongly recommend it - it really takes the "overwhelm" out of the whole experience. I felt the sales associate was really trying to gauge my needs and she NEVER pushed items on me, in fact she said so many times, "if you don't love it, then it's not for you." When you make the appointment they will ask what department you want to start in. I might suggest Point of View given your wish list. Mine started in Studio 121 which I would describe as higher-end career wear.

Ah! You are tall

I'd head straight to the "Point of View" dept and try on Halogen, Michael Kors, Kenneth Cole and Semantics stuff.

Then I'd head off to the "Individualist" dept and check out the sale rails and dress dept.

K- You will be FLOORED by the service you experience at Nordie's!

I had only shopped at Target, thrifts and JC Penny's. I was shocked to be waited on hand and foot, in spacious clean dressing rooms, with a sales person bringing me different sizes. Lovely.

I went in with a list of things, culled from Angie's lists and perusing the on-line site. I had the catalog numbers from the website, and the site will also tell you if an item is in stock at a particular store. From that list the SA had an idea of what I was looking for, and made other suggestions. It was very fun!
