First MOG dress option

Help. I had several friends tell me they really liked this dress for my sons wedding in August and was feeling pretty good about it then today my neighbor came to look and wasn't very forthcoming with compliments...tell it to me true ladies... Forgive the knee high nude hose etc but just getting preliminary approval to move on or move forward. Note: it's hard to find dressed long enough (check) and that work for my broad shouldered short waist...thanks so much for honest feedback for this most important event!

Can we see it without the jacket? (Or are you committed to not taking the jacket off?)

It's a lovely cut & really suits your body but I don't feel able to say from the photo. I'm not sure that I'm liking it with the jacket but the jacket is slightly twisted. Can we see it with shoes?

Carole, I think we do need to see it styled more (if you can) and in better light. It's just tough to tell from this photo.

Also -- do you know and trust your neighbour's style sense? Is there a reason not having to do with how you look in the dress that she might not like it? That could be important to consider.

You have a fabulous figure, and the dress is flattering. Not so sure about the jacket, either.

I see Suz and I are on the same page. I was wondering if you trust your neighbor's fashion sense because the dress is very flattering from what I can tell.

I will have to take more pics and repost. This is my first real time post and actually took this photo before purchasing the dress that was ordered for me. This is a petite and I am NOT petite, I don't feel totally comfortable in this dress w/o the jacket- but I will post a picture of that as well. Ps my neighbor is sort of critical. Maybe she thinks this is too matronly Idk - she has been known to dress somewhat too young for her age (short short tight dresses)

Okay - it sounds like she is not the right judge. Bring it to us, we will be better! From what I can tell it looks like a lovely fabric, a beautiful sort of champagne tone, and very feminine. Typically I see you wearing more clean-lined pieces so I was a little bit surprised, but need to see a better photo to have a clearer sense of whether it works for your style. It is figure flattering for sure.

I think the dress and jacket combo is very flattering and appropriate. Provided that your son/DIL is okay with the colour (it is light enough in the photos to be mistaken for ivory or off-white), I think it is a great combo.

Yes, Suz, I do prefer cleaner lines but this was the best of the bunch from this particular day, most too short or not flattering int the bust shoulder area. Can't wait to get home and take additional photos

I'm with Suz and the others in thinking you need to style the dress before making the final decision.

More importantly, how do you feel in the dress? If one odd reaction was enough to make you doubt the dress, it might be that you aren't feeling as good as you ought to be about it. It's a lovely dress that fits you very well, but you also deserve a dress with a high happiness quotient for such an important occasion.

Echo - u make a good point about the color and did get a thumbs up from dil-it's champagne color and kind of shimmery. Gaylene-u make a good point also about happiness factor and I feel great in the dress with the jacket on/a little self conscious with the jacket off, I'm going to keep looking and can always return this dress from Nordstrom in case something better comes along.

Is your neighbour, someone whose opinion you value regarding style? I think the dress is very flattering, you have such a lovely figure I too would like to see it styled before making a decision but I kind of like the unexpected element of the jacket.

I think the fit is very nice and shows off your beautiful shape. I wasn't sure of the color until I read that it has a metallic sheen. Those fabrics photograph very badly and usually end up looking dull and flat.

Do you feel confident in it? The addition of shoes and a bit of bling will make a lot of difference too and should take a very nice dress and make it gorgeous.

Deborah - thanks for your input. I had mentioned above..... my neighbor is sort of critical. Maybe she thinks this is too matronly Idk - she has been known to dress somewhat too young for her age (short short tight dresses) I had zero doubts until her viewing...maybe it's my lack of confidence or just that fact that I want to look and feel my very best-such a big event in life!

Thanks, dianthus, I just missed you! Funny you mention the shimmery fabric not photographing well.....that is in fact why I eliminated another dress, it looked beautiful IRL and very flattering but the photos leads it look cheap and cheesy.... didn't seem to have issues with photographing.

I was actually wondering if your neighbour might be jealous of your gorgeous figure (i.e. the opposite of thinking it is "matronly.") But I can see how some people might read champagne and a jacket as a matronly look, regardless...

You make everything you wear look sophisticated and easy. I want to see you in a formal dress that does all of that and more.

I think it's lovely, and I like the simplicity of the jacket. I also like that it IS close to bridal white (without being too close) because I think you will blend in beautifully in photos. My mother in law wore the most ridiculous outfit to our wedding and stood out like a sore thumb! I'd much prefer something subtle and elegant, which I think is exactly what this dress is. I'd love to see a few other options, but see no fault in this one.

Put shoes, hose and a smile on and see the difference.

As for your neighbour, not everyone is able to articulate the kind of well thought out, courteous and helpful comments you get from this forum.

I will tell it to you straight: it's a cool dress and you look good. It is also a 'weird' dress that will stump conventional, plain people. The first thing they'll see are a lot of flippy pieces of cloth. I'd wear it personally. I think it perfect for MOG. Interesting, pretty, and yet subdued. A lovely foil for the marrying couple.

I think also the with shoes and makeup you will look fab wearing this at the wedding. It's kind of jarring to see you wearing this barefoot and in the dressing room, which is why for a moment I wasn't sure about it, but once it's styled and you're in the correct setting it will look beautiful (and suitable for the occasion).

Carole- you are stunning and the color of that dress is elegant. The petite sizing may be interfering with my ability to assess the dress and particlarly the jacket. You will be an awesome M-o-G in whatever you choose.

The only thing I would suggest is that photos of weddings endure and whatever you select, I would experiment with how it looks with others, casts shadows, reads "busy" or super trendy, and looks in group photos. I don't mean not "today", but sometimes it helps to stir in those variables.

You will look great!

The shape of the dress is amazing on your beautiful figure. I'm not sure about the jacket. You definitely want a dress that makes you feel confident in every way.

Hi Carole --

If it looks this good in crappy lighting, in a petite (not your usual regular), AND with no shoes I think it's definitely a contender.

It's a bit flirty but still restrained enough to say, "I'm know I'm not the center of attention but thank you, I do look daggone good."

Trust your instincts -- but verify them by getting dolled up and seeing if you feel the same way.

I wouldn't beat around the bush. Head straight to Tadashi Shoji and Adrianna Papel dresses online and in store at Nordies. This is where I would start you off if you were my client

Ok, thanks Angie for the recommendation, although I did check what was available in stores and this was the best of the lot. I will repost pics of actual dress in my right size just to be sure and post some pics of other possibilities...yikes I'm getting worried:(
