First Attempt at a Jeans Purchase!

If you saw my ask Angie post last week, you know that I have succumbed to the siren call of denim. Jeans have come a long way, baby. At least, they've come a long way since I last purchased or wore any (almost ten years ago).

I spent about an hour at my nearby Nordstrom this afternoon, trying on a lot of denim. They carried some of what Angie recommended for me, but not all. I really liked a pair of Paige Hidden Hills bootcuts (but they didn't come in petite, meaning an over 2" hemming was needed, which kills the awesome bootcut line), another Paige pair of skinnies (I never thought I'd hear myself say that), and a Citizens of Humanity petite bootcut, shown below.

I brought home the CoH pair, but I am wondering about the color. I know that they dyed it this way on purpose (lighter on the front thighs, with whiskering at the crotch), but...I'm not 100% sure that I like it. I've ordered another pair in a different wash so that I can compare the two.

What do you think about the dye? I know that the front view is kinda dark, I hope you can see what I'm talking about. It makes the whole look more casual, which isn't bad but wasn't really what I was going for.

I'm not a fan of whiskering. The fit looks nice, so take them back and try for a different wash.

I love them on you and I LOVE the dye. Do not get rid of these!! The whiskering makes them look like you've had them for years, and they don't have that "I just ran out and bought new jean" look.

I am also petite. I wear Joe's Provocateur, they don't need a hem job. The problem with non petite jeans is not the hem. That can be moved. The bigger problem for me is the location of the knee break.

Wow, they look like they fit you amazingly well! I can't really see the whiskering in the photos, so maybe it's not that obvious? Anyway, that style is certainly a keeper.

I don't mind whiskering when it is subtle such as these. They look fine to me. I also find jean shopping a workout, so many brands and styles to pick from. But when you find the right pair, it's worth it! These look great on you!

Trying on regular bootcut jeans really helped me understand the value of petite-sized bootcuts. The knee-break, the flare of the bootcut, and the rise of the petite version are all *so* much better for my 5'2" frame. I agree with modgrl on that 100%. Hems are easy in comparison!

I'm so used to seeing myself in skirts and dresses, I felt almost naked in these tight-on-my-curves jeans. I got confirmation that they fit well, though, and I'm not modest so I'll just get used to rockin' the tight, bootcut jeans again!

The fit looks great! - and I can't see the whiskering that you are referring to. However, I am wondering about the length - they look almost too short to me - especially if you are going to wear a shoe that has even a 1 inch heel - but I am just going by the pics that I see - you may be able to tell IRL that it works ok!

Are you wearing shoes with heels in the pic? If so, they may be alright - I just always error on the side of 'too long' rather than 'too short!'

Hi Marley. Yes, I'm wearing a pair of Miz Mooz platform pumps. I'd say they give me about 2.5" additional height. In the side/back view, you can see that the back hem is almost skimming the floor. I'd probably wear my Frye boots (no heels) most of the time with these jeans, though.

These look great, though I also am not a fan of the whiskering. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the other wash fits just as well and looks less casual!

I don't mind whiskering when it's subtle like this, and I think they look great on you!

I recently bought a pair of Kuts that have some fading and whiskering, even though I generally avoid it, and I like them for their easy, casual look. I find it very useful to have some jeans that are darker, more uniform wash to dress up, and some that look a little more worn and casual.

Keep these!! You look great - I don't think that they look too casual at all. These are a keeper - congrats on your first pair of jeans!

I agree with Janet. One pair like this is great, especially if you are wearing on weekends. And another pair that is just a dark wash, no whiskering, will round out your options.

These look great! Are they long enough? I respectfully disagree that shortening regular premium bootcuts will alter the bootcut shape.

The question is: how did these compare with the Joes and the Paige's?
